I Love My Home at the Landings

I have lived at The Landings for seven years now and overall, I love living here.

My apartment (two bedrooms) has lots of storage -- plenty of cabinets in the kitchen and a pantry, as well as outside storage and two walk-in closets. The balcony is the largest I have ever had, with lots of room for plants and a swing, and I use it often. The rooms are spacious compared to many other apartments I've seen in this area. This is what you get with an older apartment, and I am very satisfied.

I enjoy walking my dog here -- we have 40 acres. It feels like living in a park, with the pond, the many trees and flowers, the large green spaces and the wildlife. Yes, the geese poop (and maybe if you aren't familiar with it you might think it's dog poop), but lots of us love them and enjoy feeding them and watching them raise their young in the spring.

I have read the other reviews and have experienced some of the same problems, but with an older apartment, there will be repairs. The office and maintenance staff have always been courteous, friendly and helpful, and I never had a problem getting anything attended to. Perhaps it's all in the way you ask, stay on top of things and be reasonable in your expectations.

Also, whenever I have asked permission to make improvements on my own, such as paint or to add anything else within reason, I have been given permission to do so. The staff has even offered to do it for me, but sometimes I like to do things myself.

They are always making improvements, such as upgrading the apartments (beautiful), painted all the exteriors, removed dead trees and planted new ones, put in nice shrubs and plants. The laundry rooms have recently received all new appliances, and parking is now being enforced. So, if everyone follows the rules there won't be problems. You won't get towed if you display your sticker, and if your friends park in a visitor's space or on the street, they will be safe as well. If people don't abuse the new laundry facilities, they will stay in nice shape. And if you want to have a big party, there is a party room you can rent and there are areas outside to entertain where there are barbeque grills.

While there have been issues in the past with noisy neighbors, these were young people, probably away from home for the first time; they like their fun and their music loud. However, these neighbors are no longer here, and my current neighbors are nice. Everyone makes a little noise now and again, it is an apartment after all, not completely soundproof, but I have no complaints.

I do wish the police would make more regular rounds here, as they have in the past. I believe their presence may discourage crime in the area, but while I have heard about crime, I have not experienced any problems. I feel safe and at home.

The grounds do get messy sometimes (mostly holidays), but this is much better than in the past. I think the blame lies with the tenants, not maintenance. If people would place their trash in the dumpster, this would not be a problem. We have a nice place here if people would only do their part and raise their children to do the same. Maintenance can only do so much, the rest is up to us.

When I first moved in, it appeared there were more Hispanic tenants than anyone else, but now I see more diversification. So long as people act decently, though, I couldn't care less. A little variety doesn't hurt.

I have always recommended this complex to other people whenever I get the chance. It's a nice place to live if you carefully select an apartment that feels like home to you, and the rent is reasonable. They don't offer a lot of "amenities" to jack up the rent and I wouldn't use anyway. We do have two beautiful pools, a volley ball court, a basketball court and an exercise room that people use all the time.

So, I hope if you're looking for an apartment home, you check this place out in person before making your final decision. I'm really glad I did.

I agree completely. I have only lived here for a month or so but have found my neighbors to be very friendly and the staff to be very helpful (you catch more flys with honey than with vinegar). I look forward to being here for a long time!
