Do not rent from Village Green!

The office staff is not good for anything. Even the "managers" are useless
and cannot answer simple questions such as "Why is the gate open at 9:00
at night'''" DO NOT LIVE HERE!!! Also, if you ask the (incompetent)
managers at Village Green a question, they generally take weeks or months
to get back to you. My roommate and I have met with them to express our
concerns about the bus, gate etc. During that meeting, the manager assured
us that she would get back to us, but, after a month, we had to remind her
to do so. And we're still waiting.
In one instance, I mailed my rent, well before the
due date, only to receive a sweet little notice on my door that I owed
late rent and would be taken to court if it wasn't payed by the next day.
I had mailed the rent check overnight with delivery confirmation and, sure
enough, when I checked online it said the USPS had tried to deliver it and
had left a note so VG could pick it up. I went to the "clubhouse" to speak
with the managers. I explained that I had payed it and that it had been
delivered. I was told, "I'm sorry, but I can't waive the late fee."
According to NC law, rent is not late as long as it is postmarked by the
5th of the month, which mine definitely was. The management knew this,
they simply thought they had me in a bind, which they, in fact, did not.
In short, the management did not back down until my mother drove two hours
from home to speak with them. Then they acted like they really cared and
wanted to help. HAH! Moral of the story: If you're going to live here,
pack your fight face and make sure your parents do too.
It is WAY overpriced. You can get a comparable apartment for at least $150
less.
As for the bus schedule, I now have to pay money to drive to school
because the bus schedule was changed (meaning hours were dropped) after
the semester started. Also, there are HUGE breaks in the bus schedule,
which means that if you don't time it just right, you'll be stranded on
campus for up to two hours just waiting on the next bus. When we met with
the manager, she told us that the bus is a "free amenity." Which,
essentially, means the management feels free to cut hours and does not
care how it affects residents. The management did send out a survey about
the bus schedule, but all they did when they got it back was move around a
couple breaks. How rude!!!
Also, Village Green representatives like to tout the "newly-renovated
clubhouse," but don't be fooled. The clubhouse was much better (more
comfortable chairs, less stuffy etc.) before they wasted rent money to
remodel it. And don't be fooled when they say that tanning is free,
either. You have to pay (at least) a $30 deposit to use the tanning bed.
In addition, I'm not sure what a "vegas-style" pool is, but VG's pool is
nothing special. Actually, it's quite dirty. The landscaping around the
pool is bland. There are flowers around the model apartment, but not
around the others...hmmm... :)
As for the quality of the buildings, we have stress cracks all over the
apartment. And, my roof leaked once when it rained. Fantastic, really.
p.s. I fully expect an anonymous comment from someone defending Village
Green to follow my post. To "anonymous": I hope Village Green is paying
you well:)
