Mostly Good Review

I rented 2 BR, fully furnished apt. at Colony Square for appx. 2 months after receiving a sudden work transfer to NC.

I was grateful that my apartment weathered Hurricane Isabel well, although my ceilings sprang 2 major leaks during the height of the storm (one bedroom wall had water running down it like a waterfall). Fortunately, nothing was damaged, and many homes throughout the region experienced problems during the hurricane. After the storm, maintenance was working on my apartment within 2 days.

I found the staff to be pleasant, helpful, and patient, and my service requests were responded to within 24 hours. they really helped me with my needs, and made me feel very welcome.

They made convenient, last minute arrangements for my arrival, and they were ready for me when I arrived. If I ever received voicemail when I called the office, they called back the same day. There is a managment member living on-site, and I like that.

They also provided lots of useful information about local area questions I had, and they even received packages for me when I was unable to be home. Their renter?s information packet was complete and very helpful.

The pool was always clean, the hot tub worked fine, and the gym was in working order.

The location is in a very nice, upscale neighborhood adjacent to a golf course, and is on one of the highest spots of land in the city (no flooding problem in bad weather).

Colony Square is conveniently located to shopping and major roads. I felt safe, and the landscaping is pleasant. I had a fireplace, and I love that! I also had a brand new washer and dryer in the apartment that worked well. How convenient!

The $1300 per month corporate rate rent I was paying was a bit higher than I am used to paying for corporate apartments in major cities, however. The condition of the apartment was of a lower overall quality than I am accustomed to, also, including:

Cheap, aging apartment interior

Second floor location

Lack of convenient Internet accessibility

Cheap appointments, including aging electric appliances, and cheap bathtubs that creak loudly enough when you stand in them that your neighbors on the other side of the wall can hear you (and hear the water running).

The walls were sheetrock, painted with poor-quality flat paint that marks instantly, and the non-carpeted portions of the flooring were covered in cheapest quality, white sheet vinyl over uneven floor seams.

The floor carpeting and vinyl were new, though, and that was nice. The couches and beds were comfortable, and the linens were new.

Bedroom window treatments were cheap, white, vinyl mini-blinds that did nothing to block the light from the "spotlight" that glares brightly over the stair landings located directly in front of 1/2 of the bedroom windows.

I felt like I was trying to sleep in a trucker?s parking lot. No curtain rods were on the windows, so I couldn?t even drape a towel over the window to block the light.

The silverware, pots, and dishes were the lowest quality discount "dollar" store type (plastic dishes and cups, some cheap china cups and glasses, plastic and thin steel silverware, etc...).

You cannot change the generic voicemail message on your phone unless you pay to have it changed back when you leave. The voicemail does not even state the number that the caller has reached.

This can be a liability to visiting business professionals, because their callers do not know if they have called the right number when they reach the voicemail, and they may be hesitant to leave voicemail if they aren?t sure.

I have rented corporate apartements before in 3 major metropolitan areas, and they have provided somewhat better quality lodging and business conveniences for less money.

Thanks for listening. I provided an evaluation to management upon checkout. I would rent there again, but I might want to negotiate on price, if possible.
