Not Worth It

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007
I stayed in these apartments only one of my four years at NDSU. After one year here me and my roommates knew we had to leave. My first impression of the management was positive. They told us they take care of their residents like they were their own children and to call and let them know if we were going to have people over so they knew about it if people called them to complain. They tried getting us to sign a lease for 4 year lease because apparently that's what all the other students were doing. This lead me to believe renters must not last that long in these buildings if they are trying to commit you to 4 years. Anyways we signed for a year.
Upon moving in the place was disgusting. Dust over most of the surfaces, pubic hairs around the toilet, we even found a moldy, black potato on the top of the cabinets in the kitchen. Needless to say we had to clean the whole place again before we got settled. It was the beginning of the summer so we had the air conditioning on which didn't seem to work at all so we called and they came and replaced it using another old one that was dirty and dusty and didn't work any better than the last one.
The trains were loud and woke you up frequently during all hours of the night. Residents were loud, but what do you expect from a college apartment. The place didn't have security doors and you would have solicitors coming through the halls knocking on your doors. Also, the first week we moved in there was a domestic dispute and someone was stabbed. There was a blood trail running from the third floor down to the first that was not cleaned up because you could still see the dried, black spots of blood weeks later.
The maintenance was bad. The managers would leave every Friday afternoon to go to the bar and even if there was an emergency such as a broken pipe under your kitchen sink (yes that happened) they would not come to fix it. They told me to lay my towels down to soak up the water until they could get there later the next day.
Then upon moving out, after we cleaned that place way better than it had even looked upon us moving in they still charged us for every little wall hole and anything else they could. We didn't even get much of our deposit back. I know this is because we were young adults and they felt they could take advantage of us and they did. I even called the head of the company and he was completely unprofessional. He even called me obscene words in our discussion of my wanting to know the exact reasons why they wouldn't give our deposit back. I would have liked to take them to court but in the end I just thought I learned a lesson and would never rent from those managers or the company again.
