Overall it was a nice place to live in until you try and leave.
I had to move to a new town for my medical residency over a single weekend.
They make you professionaly clean your carpets which cannot be done until you move out, and they can't do a final walk through until the carpets are cleaned.
So unless you're moving locally you will have to drive from where ever you move next to do the final walk through.
My parents and I spent half the day cleaning a clean apartment and I've never had any problems getting my entire security deposits back in the past 6 establishments I've rented.
3 months later they wrote a letter saying they used my $280 deposit (which I was expecting back) and I owed them another $900 because they needed to replace everything (including $5 per light bulb etc...) My parents and I, who literally scrubed every inch, were abauled.
I wrote them a letter with a list of my lawyers demands (photos, written testimonies, receipts for each $5 light bulb, etc..) and I never heard back from them, but I never got my $280 deposit back either.

I am sorry that you feel you had such a bad move out experience with us. The steam cleaning of carpets is a standard practice with all local management companies. We understand that you had a very short notice on moving but that is not a very common occurance. Most tenants will know in advance if there is a possibility of them having to move and will discuss their options with us so that we can arrange for the best scenario for all of us involved. I assure you that no one is perfect but we do make every attempt to follow up with any letters, calls, complaints, etc that we get from our current and past tenants. I find it very hard to believe that your apartment was spotless and in perfect condition when you left if we in fact had to replace light bulbs, clean, etc after your move out. You have every right to take pictures when you move out of the condition of the apartment as you left it, in fact we encourage people to do so. |

Belated response to manager. Every couple of months I get an email telling me someone else has reviewed Dakato Park on this website. And every time it is the same story that I experienced in 2006, so apparently they are not willing to stop cheating people. As for your response to my move out scenario, I knew the day I moved in that I would be leaving at the end of the year. I told the management the exact date of my move out one month in advance. They were not agreable to do a walk through on a weekend and they were not agreable to do the walk through before the carpets were cleaned. They could have looked at everything else! And also, if a light bulb burns out after it's stated number of hours of use I don't know what else would qualify as "wear and tear". Its not like I went through and stole all the light bulbs or something! And no matter how much you clean, even if you paid a professional to clean your apartment they will still have their people clean and charge you for it. The fact that I am still writing reviews on this website 5 years later tells you how completely wrong Dakota Park is in their move out practices. PS I was never encouraged to take photos of anything when I moved out but was lucky I did, only got cheated out of my security deposit. Fortunately for them I moved states away and could not spend the time or money to try to get that rightfully returned to me.
