The people that are writing bad reviews about Dakota Park may have gotten their SD back at other places they lived no matter the condition of the apartment when they left but then that apartment owner probably didn't care what they were renting out to others. The staff and the owner just want new people that come into there place to l think its a wonderful place of its appearance and cleanlyness and peolpe who trash the place should get charged for it.Most people I know when I lived there wer older and they consider DP their home. Some people don't respect that.DP is not a bad place to live by any means.

Thank you for your response! It is true that we hope all of our tenants treat their apartments as their homes. We do what we can to encourage tenants to treat the property with respect. If we don't charge the people who don't care about maintaining their homes, what kind of message is that sending to those tenants who do take care of their apartments? Thank you to all the residents who respect Dakota Park Apartment Homes! :) ~Dakota Park Management

You are right on only one issue, "DP is not a bad place to live". HOWEVER, It is a HORRIBLE place to try to move out of!!! While I lived there I enjoyed my stay, and if I choose to rent their my entire life (like those older people whom you speak of) I would have never had a problem with this establishment. So those people who have not tried to move out, and therefore have not had their security deposit stolen, should not have a problem with Dakota Park...yet! I do warn current and prospective renters to take photographs of everything when you move out like I did, be aware of ND tenant laws, know a few lawyers, and just maybe they will steal only your deposit. When they claimed I owed them an extra $1000 above my security deposit and if I didn't pay I would have to go to court they were in violation of my tennant rights according to ND law. They are not allowed to "bill me" anything above my security deposit without proving it in court, thats a subtle difference but still important. When I asked them to provide any evidence of the damage (conveniently they had no pictures of the old carpet they replaced...if they even replaced it at all.) They sent a letter and demanded payment within 2 weeks, I sent them several demands for proof, and could never get anyone to provide any. I left my apartment in the exact prestine condition I received it 12 months earlier, I talked with the professional carpet cleaner and they did not recall any stains that were not easily removed. Dakota Park Apartments basically lied, tried to bully me into paying a thousand dollars above my security deposit, and when I requested any proof I could not get anyone to return my multiple phone calls, emails or letters. I've never heard from them again... and never saw my deposit again. I'm sure that if they threaten everyone with these $800-1000 "bills" when they move out, 50% will pay because they are scared to go to court and the other 50% who put up some resistance will just settle to have their security deposit stolen and avoid the hassle of going to court to get their security deposit back. Its not a bad little money making scheme they have going on over there, either way Dakota Park Apartments make more money. But, if they do it enough, to enough people who know the law and have the energy to fight them and publicise their fraud maybe we can get it to stop. In the meantime, I suggest protecting yourself to the fullest, take pictures the day you move in and the day you move out and get a lawyer if you want your deposit back. A security deposit is certainly necesary to help cover damages above "wear and tear", and I've seen how poorly some people treat rental properties. However reviewing the information on ND Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem website it clearly delineates what is considered "wear and tear", what they attempted to charge me for was ludicrous and illegal. And of course there was not a shread of evidence behind their claims. They are just lucky I moved far away and work too damn hard to have the time to take them to court to get my security deposit. So "Anonymous", what part of Dakota Park Apartments do you work for, are you the owner or one of the managers? You seem to mention "the staff and owner" as if you personally know them or are one. If you want to keep your place looking brand new by replacing your carpets every other year and painting all the walls every year regardless of the wear and tear then you should raise your monthly rent. After all, that should easily cover the "wear and tear" you are illegaly "billing" tennants for. Any other stupid comments?
