Oh, what to say about this place'

First of all the management stinks badly. They and the housing board run this place extremely shoddily, with a bunch of confusing and poorly thought out rules/guidelines. Ninety percent of the time they either fail to enforce their own rules or enforce them in some cases and not in others which leaves tenants confused and unsure of what the actual rule is.

The grounds are poorly kept. Grassy areas are a 50/50 mixture of weeds and low quality grass seed mixture. Walkways are bordered by weeds and roughly weed-wacked patches. Trees are not pruned and ornamental varieties are not kept up as they should be. Shrubs are ripped out only to be replaced with badly placed, ill-chosen kinds which are not kept up very well.

Tenants are income based. Consequently, there are quite a lot of disputes and tenant difficulties and management only adds to the problems when it actually gets involved.

The housing board is a farce and seem to mainly serve on the board for the social position.

Laundry is free, however the laundry rooms are locked a lot of the time and difficult to access due to extremely restrictive hours of operation. (they are opened at 8 am and closed and locked at 5 pm and 9 pm, with the last load being allowed to begin no later than 4 pm and 8 pm depending on which laundry room you visit.) Each of the two laundry facilities has 3 washers and 3 dryers so there is usually a wait to get laundry done.

Getting things repaired by maintenance is a hassle. They dont want to make appointments for repairs, preferring to show up when it is best for them, not the tenant, and they never leave a pink slip copy of the maintenance order.

All utilities are included in the rent, but there is no air conditioning. Each tenant is required to supply their own window A/C unit and it can be no bigger than 10,000 BTU. Tenants with A/C units are required to pay a yearly fee for having them.

Each building has 4 units in it, and all units in the building share one solitary hot water heater, which often results in temperature control problems and a lack of hot water at the most inconvenient time. Also, each building is wired with connecting smoke alarms, which go off in every unit in the building when one has gone off. Headache!!

No assigned parking places, and the number of parking spots available is usually not able to handle the amount of tenant cars, much less cars of tenant's visitor/s. This makes parking a nightmare!

There is a monthly newspage offered by the landlord, and a number of tenant activities offered such as church services for people who cant get out, card nights, monthly potlucks and community birthday parties, bingo, bible study, holiday parties and decorating events. The club house has two rooms with full service kitchens that are available to be rented out for family functions if it doesnt conflict with a previously scheduled event.

There are no children allowed here, which means no families.

I think that in general this place might be an acceptible place to live if you keep to yourself and never associate with either the other tenants or management.

If you want to be active in the community or try to help improve the living situation here in any way it is nearly impossible because management, as well as tenants do not like change. Rules at Parkview Manor are already incredibly restrictive and make for a tense living situation.

I made the best decision of my life when I moved out of this place.

My hope in writing this is that by providing my side of the whole ordeal, prospective tenants can see life in PVM from the inside, not just the sugar-coated version that landlords usually tell.
