don't be fooled

I moved into this complex when the building was brand new two years ago. These apartments have an exceptional layout but were very poorly built. The walls are literally paper thin, I had to buy a fan for my bedroom to drown out my neighbor's snoring at night and I can almost always tell what TV. show they are watching. The cement stairs in the halls are very noisy. The front door has no latch and has been ripped off the hinges 4 times during heavy winds. The casing for the sliding glass door is too large for the door itself and comes off the track. The deck is slanted downward, the windows don't always work properly and there are corners in the ceiling that are starting to crack; in a two year old building! The poor construction will no doubt be a huge issue for future residents. The appliances are brand new, but the stove in my apartment does not even have an apparatus to note when your oven is pre-heated. Seems picky, but it's very annoying to play guessing games when you just want to eat dinner! The mail is a huge problem in LaVista. I have been thru two different post persons and still have trouble getting my mail and having my outgoing mail picked up. The largest problem is the residents who are seniors. I am a single girl living alone and barely make noise, but the senior residents expect everything to be extremely quiet. The police are called often for noise complaints and the management refuses to actually attempt to fix the situation. They pick sides and are very he-said-she-said oriented. The pool is horrible. It is 5 feet deep at the deepest end and is very small. If there are any kids swimming, do not expect to have even arms width of room to relax. Parking is a huge problem. I did opt for the garage, however when I had a friend come to visit she always had to park in the neighborhood's street unless it was in the middle of the day. Unless you pay extra to get a garage, or get home early every day, expect to park a ways away from your buidling. While the rent is still somewhat competitive it has been raised each year and at this point I'd rather pay a little extra and lose the great floor plan to get out of this place. I can't wait to move.
