Haymarket Lofts

I lived here for one year, and would still be living here if not for relocating out of state. The apartment I had was amazingly spacious and comfortable. The basic decor (wall color, carpet) were very nice, not the standard white-walls, tan-carpet, but all nice shades of sage and olive, with huge amounts of oak woodwork. Best of all, living in the Haymarket! Walk to movies, restaurants, bars, etc. And still feel safe. There was no time I felt nervous walking to or from my apartment.

Of course, this is the Haymarket, so if you have a car, you will need to pay extra for a reserved place at one of the nearby lots, or play the parking game. However, I never had to walk more than three blocks, except on home football Saturdays.

One drawback...five floors, no elevator. There is a freight elevator for moving in and out, or bringing up anything new. And sometimes you can get permission to use in in special circumstances (I got to after getting home from a 2-week trip in China...all the luggage, plus jet-lag, didn't think I could make it on my own!). But if you do live on an upper floor, I can guarantee legs-and-buns 'o' steel after 3 months from the stairs!
