I've lived at this apartment for several months now and was pleased with the staff's politeness and willingness to assist us with our needs. However, since a gunman entered my building and shot into one of the apartments, I've come to realize that the management, both on-site and corporate, are insensitive to the security and safety of their residents.

At 3am, there was a man who entered the building with a gun and fired into an apartment. Since the incident, the apartment has done nothing to tighten the security around the place and they repeatedly refused to change the outside lock, saying that they are not responsible for the personal safety of the residents. While I understand the lack of liability from a legal standpoint, from a humanistic standpoint, this is complete unacceptable. The person(s) in the target apartment were unable to get to the door, and the likelihood that someone resident let a stranger into the building at 3am on a Tuesday via buzzer is low. Thus, the person must have used a key. If they used a key, and still have that key (or a copy), they still have access to the building. Refusing the change the locks is showing blatant disregard for the safety of the residents.

Since the complex markets mostly to a college crowd, anyone could have let them in since people come and go there all hours of the day and night. Refusing to change the locks, however, after an incident such as you described is ridiculous.
