We live in a ground-floor one-bedroom apartment, and our HVAC unit is so inefficient that we consistently have $85 monthly electric bills during the winter, AND WE HAVE GAS HEAT! Not to mention our electric bill in the summer, which hovers around $140 a month. We run a space heater 24/7, live under blankets, and dress in layers, because our apartment (perhaps the whole building) seems to be insulated like a outhouse. Oh, and another thing: I can't have a hot shower if one of my neighbors runs their dishwasher or does a load of clothes or decides that they too would like a shower. The water turns cold and stays cold, and ain't nothing you can do about it. I warn you now because there is no way of knowing these things before you sign the lease and move your stuff in. Oh, and another thing, and I had no idea about this, but nearly every other apartment complex around us is poorly-managed public housing, so I feel like I'm paying $560 a month to live next to the freakin' projects.

On the other hand, I cannot say enough good things about Broadmoor's customer service. They have always been prompt and courteous whenever we have maintenance issues, and the office staff are always very friendly. Security was always prompt when needed. The property and facilities are always kept up nicely and our apartment itself is very attractive (new cabinetry, frieze carpet, brushed nickel fixtures, Italian tile, and the like). My complaints mostly center around our god-awful energy costs and horrible building insulation, and the fact that I THOUGHT 96th and Q was a nice neighborhood (apparently not!). I would not recommend Briarwood, but I would recommend Broadmoor and plan to consider them in the future.
