I lived at Fox Valley from August 2003 through June of 2006. We were on a month-to-month lease. My roommate left in March 2006. I found a new place that May. I gave them 30 days notice that the apt would be vacated. I moved out one month later at the end of June. My rent was paid in full for that last month.
2 years later I have recieved a call from a collection agency that I owe Fox Valley $339. She first started going over some charges for bogus damages, i.e. "hole in shower wall." There zero holes in any walls. Then she told me the bill was for unpaid rent.

i had a similar experience. when i and my roommate moved out, they refused to give us our whole deposit back, first claiming it was used for repairs and then saying we owed for a few extra days rent. still don't know where they came up with a few extra days... after months of trying i just gave up and took what they gave me thinking that something was better than nothing.

A little tip... take pictures of the entire apartment when you move out. The entire apartment! Especially the kitchen and the bathroom because that is where they will try to find damages that don't exist and once you move out there is nothing you can do about it, but if you have pictures and you tell them that and ask them to point out the damages then they will return your deposit in full (TRUST ME). Also ask to go through the walk-through with them at the end of your lease and remember that you probably did put a hole in the wall here or there so if you don't get $50 back then don't stress it because you would pay much more to fix it!
