Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2005
I had a friend that lived there and I liked his place. Turns out that I got the apartment across the hall and it overlooked the pool. It was very nice. It had been remodled in the recent past. On the day I moved in, I had my family and friends helping me move. I got the key from the office and the keys they gave me would not turn the lock, great... We ended up waiting over an hour for them to figure out what to do when they finally found the spare set of keys for my apartment. The livingroom is small (12x13) in the 2bdrm 1bath, literally had to side-step around all of the furniture. The noise was also a problem. I could hear everything from kids playing outside and someone (probably not maintenance)scooping the sidewalk to loud tvs, people in the halls and neighbors doing activities. That being said, I really did like my apartment. I didn't have any leaking problems with the roof (3rd flr apt) but managment actually hired out a contractor to pull the roof off and re-do it. That was all fine and dandy, but it was early June, also known a monsoon season in Nebraska. So of course, the night before my birthday, it starts to pour. I got a call at work, my apartment was flooded. Happy birthday to me, I spend it in a hotel. woo. Not only was mine flooded, but the whole side of the building was trashed. The people on the bottom floor got the worst of it. There was standing water about 3 inches deep. I was told that if I kept all of my receipts and took pictures of the damage, etc. that I would be reimbursed for my losses, WRONG. Like a few others have comented here, I didn't get a notice to renew either. However, it was time to resign at the time of the Flood of '04 (as I like to call it). Since I did have a good experience with the flooded apartment, I resigned and got to keep my previous discounted rate. The management even hired out people to help residents move to other apartments on the property.
Once I was in the next apartment (I won't call it new), was when my troubles really kicked in. There was a pretty bad problem with ants, how in the world they got to the 3rd floor is beyond me. They were everywhere. My deck door was covered with them, and even around my windows. After much complaining, I ended up taking care of the problem myself. During Monsoon season, the window and sliding door tracking would fill with water then overflow into my apartment, just lovely. That took three months of complaining before someone came over to redrill the drain holes, by then, the rainy season was over. My toilet wouldn't flush properly either. Maint. did come over and try to fix it, but it still never got the proper "whoosh". At the time I worked C shift and slept until noon, maint. and I didn't get along. The master bedroom is on the opposite end of the apt from the door and when they would knock, I wouldn't hear it and they would just key in to start their work. That caused a lot of terrified wakings for me 'cause I thought someone had broken into my apartment! I repeatedly asked them to call first, but they never did. Finally I just put a chain on my door.
The master bedroom is excessively huge (21x17). It's the only room that you can move freely in. The ample square footage could have been put to better use in the livingroom or second bedroom.
The office staff was constantly changing. Even though I had lived there 2 years and brought my rent check in to the office and made my maint. requests in person, no one ever remembered my name. I often felt like I was being told what I wanted to hear just so I would leave. Their own staff doesn't know what the building numbers are. I can remember 5 times where I got someone elses office notices or rental renewals (but never my own).
Anyway, by the time my lease was almost up, I had been looking for another apartment for nearly 8 months prior. I was sooo looking forward to getting the hell out of there. Don't go through what the rest of us went though, save yourself!
