Upon moving in. I didn't know I got a great deal with a 14 month lease. Oh, well. I'm not that concerned. The apartment is 1330 Square Feet. And it teaches me to read contracts closer.
I have a 3 bedroom. It didn't get all the remodels done. Doors were still the old brown ones and my dining area had carpet in it. Which is why I've learned to dread feeding my children on a carpeted surface. I really wish they could have gotten it over there. On the upside I had all new appliances, except the dishwasher.
I love the stove. Glass cooktop, and everything cooks evenly. The doors were still dusty when I moved in. Oh, well, I let the kids run loose with the Swiffer. Problem solved.
Washer and dryer are nothing fancy, but in 3 Bedroom Models they're full sized. Wash and dry big loads very easily. Dryer is excellent. Some folks may not dig on the vent system (foil covered flex hose into plastic box) but it makes more sense because the longer the hose is the more effort it is to exhaust and the more bends you have the longer it takes your stuff to dry.
Yeah, the walls are thin. But noise isn't much of a problem. I used to have some neighbors who loved to boom that song with something about "it ain't no fun, if the homeys can't have none..." around dinner time. I could tell they had to have the volume at an outrageous level but at least I had something to groove to while I was making dinner. And the folks above me you can hear them knocking it out from time to time and on Husker Game Days, but I didn't move here for the solitude. It's all at a level I can put up with.
I did have a door come off the hinge, the garbage disposal lock up, and my dryer's contact switch broke. All in the same day. I called maintenance and they got it fixed in two days. They didn't come the first day I called (day 1) and they had everything fixed before I got home on day 2. So that's a good response rate in my opinion for apartment maintenance.
They didn't just break, the doors were old and thin and the screws tore through it. Old door, it happens.
The garbage disposal may have been helped along by the ex. She can't load a dishwasher either. Eh, whatcha gonna do'
I don't have many loud parties. Nor do I hear them. Unless you count Game Day as as a party.
Office Staff has been ok. Don't really talk with them much except the chit chat when I'm dropping off my rent or getting a package.
Parking isn't too bad.
Neighbors are neighbors. Some good, some bad. I've got one with a few cats so I have to hit my hallway with Febreeze Deep Clean and it nukes the litterbox smell. I'll give it another month then call the office.
When I moved in I also hit the fire door with WD-40 just so it didn't creak everytime someone came in or out.
Just one of my pet peeves, creaky doors. I've noticed all internal apartments have funky smelling hallways. I believe this may be due to people carrying out trash that may leak and what not. So as a community service I hit our hallways and landing with Febreeze Deep Clean.
Overall impression, it's an apartment folks. But I like it and it's layout. Nice big closets. Lots of storage space.
When I moved in, speaking of storage space, they changed me from a padlock to a keyed deadbolt on my storage unit, unfortunately some vagrant had mistaken my storage unit for the restroom, but the maintenance guy cleaned it right up.
As far as pest problems, none really noticed except for a few tiny ants here and there. Seeing as it's ground level, I can see how it'd be easy for them to filter in. They're usually found in bathrooms around where the caulking has pulled away from the floor, easily fixed, and some places where the vinyl baseboard isn't all the way sealed, again easily fixed. Plus I know a bug guy who gave me some ant traps and that's solved the problem.
The rent seems fair to me.
If you're easy going and not terribly demanding I think this place would work out great for you.
I don't know about the deposit situation, but no apartment I've ever lived in has ever returned it, even with an ace cleaning. I don't recall much of a deposit here, they may charge for things after the fact.
So far, so good....
