i grew up in this area of town. i lived in candletree in the early 90s when i was in my 20s and then again 10 years later after i got married and had a baby. the second time around it was obvious the place was aging, but i felt safe in the neighborhood because it was close to home and the nostalgic value was a plus.
i found quickly the place was falling apart, as old buildings will do. but they stopped fixing things and people started moving out in hordes. my car got broken into three times, several people i knew had cars and belongings stolen from storage spaces. they (then candletree-wiston managment) just didnt have any money to fix things.
it got worse, more than half the units in my building were empty and same for the buildings around me and we lived in the newer part of the complex. i can only imagine how bad the older buildings were by then. since we moved out in 2003, managment has change hands twice.. i drive through every once in a while when i am back home and the place is jsut deteriorating.
admittedly, the decay has slowed a couple time when the new companies took over, but the decay didnt stop. its still getting worse, as is that area of town. it pains me because a part of my heart will always be in northwest omaha.
i know buildings get old and some things cant be avoided, but legacy crossing is still trying to get market value for these units. these are no longer "nice" units. they were crappy (bugs, broken ac, vandalism, theft, broken glass everywhere, thugs at night) and im sure its no better now. its just the nature of things.
maybe if the rent came way way down and the place got cleaned up some, but make no mistake about it. this place is in bad shape and the managment by all accounts has not improved. i drove through this wekend when i was back home and i wouldnt raise a kid there for sure.
i see occasional positive reviews on here and i just scratch my head. either legacy is cleaning up a select few units or the people posting are just shills.
ill never heate the place cuz i grew up near it and spent so much time there, but unless you are young and want to have about 3 or 4 guys split a 2 bedroom unit to save money its not worth it. loud parties all the time, general chaos and no maintenence whatsoever.
like i said, maybe if you are just out of high school and dont care how the place looks it might be ok for a year or two, but dont make long term plans.
what angers me though is that they continue to charge market price, as if its a typical clean safe west omaha apartment complex. it hasnt been anything like that in 10 years and its getting slowly worse.
laurelwood (or whatever its called now) is close and also rapidly deteriorating, but the buildings are in better shape.
stay away from this whole area if you can.

this review angers me. how dare you just happen to "drive through" this property and make all these judgments. Just shows poor character. Grow up, DAn.

This person used to live there and is familiar with it, how is the review dumb? I agree from experience and not one thing in the review is inaccurate (except calling it "Northwest" Omaha, most consider this north and central, west is a much better neighborhood). Are you saying you cant drive through an old apartment complex you used to live in and tell if it looks to be in better or worse shape? What dumb responses, do you guys work for Legacy Crossing?

anyone who spells heat with two "e"s (i.e. "heate) is considered dumb in my book
