CYA!!!!

Whatever you do . . .
GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING!!!!!!!!!
Keep copies of everything you do, document document document!!!!!! Make copies before you turn anything over to them (EVEN RENT!!!), and have them sign the copy you keep!!!!!
I renewed my lease twice - and each time they tried raising my rent. Fought it both times & won, but not without threatening to move out each time (works best to go visit another apartment complex or two and come to LH mngt with floorplans, rent amounts and maybe even a rental application!) The local property manager OK'd it, and the next day, someone over at Richdale Corporate called me & said they just couldn't do that. Luckily, I had a copy of the agreement the property mgr & I both signed & they couldn't screw me out of more money!!!
Somehow they managed to lose their copy, and once I gave them a copy of what I kept, it still took 2 months to get my new agreement written up, and during that time, I received plenty of nasty letters saying that I hadn't paid enough rent (because they were so slow getting their blanks filled in, they showed I should be paying the month-to-month rate), it was late, and I owed them another $110, PLUS 25 for being late and 5 dollars a day until they received my check!!!!! I got an eviction letter because of their clerical error, called them each time, was told it was taken care of, and the very next month - IT HAPPENED AGAIN!!!!!
If I had it to do over again, I'd definitely go somewhere else. Somehow I managed to stay almost 3 years (I only stayed because I knew my company was relocating me, I just didn't know it was going to take this long). I'm thrilled I just moved out! I'm just worried if I'm going to get anything back of my deposit. They gave me a checklist when I turned over my 30 days notice showing me what they'd charge if I didn't dust the top of the ceiling fan blades!!!! (FYI, $15. Also $15 if you don't wash the sliding patio door.) I spackled holes in my walls that were there when I moved in!!!
I had several other problems with the apartments that I think are completely ridiculous:
Maintenance is terribly slow to respond. Just like someone else posted, I had a furnace filter placed in the middle of my living room like Maintenance figured I could just do it myself (even though the furnace & water heater are in a locked closet I don't have the key for) - more than once. And when I thought I'd be nice & call the front office about it, maintenance left a note on my door saying they wouldn't do anything because they'd already been to my apartment - and the furnace filter was still in the middle of my living room.
I locked myself out of my apartment one evening right before Christmas and when I called the non-hours number, I was curtly informed that they can only do lock-outs during business hours (wow, well then next time, I'll remember to lock myself out of my apartment at a more convenient time for you - maybe that wasn't the nicest thing to say to her, but seriously!) So I had to find a locksmith to come over and charge me $75 to drill the cylinder out of the doorknob. When I called to have them replace my doorknob, they were going to charge me another $75 for replacing that too - which I said was ridiculous since they could have paid some maintenance man $25 for his overtime if he'd just come out at 6:30 and take 5 minutes to unlock my door rather than replacing the whole doorknob! I wasn't winning that one, but then it managed to take them over 3 weeks to come replace my doorknob (thank God I had a deadbolt!!!!!!!) and I managed to barely get out of paying the charge.
I'm just glad to be out of there now, all in all, it was a decent price for an apartment, but the headache from living there I just don't think is worth it.
