My roommate and I spent a year in a two-bedroom basement apartment. The decorating scheme wasn't my favorite (1950s style bathrooms and kitchens), but it has its own charms, and the apartment was pretty cheap.

From the day we moved in, things were leaking, and thus began a tumultuous romance between myself and the many maintenance guys. Something was ALWAYS leaking. During the heavy spring rains, we had a pile of towels lining the kitchen windows (remember, we were on the "ground" floor) and all were soaked. At one point in time, there was water pouring out of our light fixture (which REALLY freaked me out).

Overall, though, the place wasn't that bad. It was pretty spacious, our heat and water were paid, and the end result was a relatively cheap apartment that required a phone call for maintenance every so often. I've never had an apartment where I HAVEN'T had to call maintenance at least once.

I never had any problem with parking (although my car is a POS so I can't imagine anyone wanting to break into it). I parked in the back (southern) lot, though, and there was *almost* always at least one spot open, even in the middle of the night. Around the end of our stay, though, someone started having parties and then I was just giving high school students dirty looks for taking up parking (do each of you REALLY need to drive separately')

Oh, and did I mention the singing groundkeeper' He was British, I believe, and he just walked around in the afternoons, pruning and singing at the top of his lungs. It always put me in a good mood to see him :D
