Not a b$%*@ fest

Okay, I am not a complainer, by nature. I firmly believe that you get what you pay for. And frankly, for what me and my two roommates rented, the price was good. And it's cheap, because let's face it- the place will be a total dump in 6 years. BEWARE if you live in a 3 bedroom- the corner bedroom is so freezing cold- we would have the thermo at 85 and I would have to sleep in two pairs of sweatpants, a long sleeved shirt, and a hooded sweatshirt (wearing the hood over my head). I am not exaggerating about this- that's how poor the insulation is. I also had a down comforter and another blanket on my bed. It was like the 1800s, I imagine.
Also, parking is an issue- but not as bad as other apartments my friends live at- like Breckinridge. So just learn to deal with it if you live there.
Okay, with this said, I have some things that people who are considering living at Steeplechase should know. I believe these are all things that could have been taken care of by management:
1. They used primer as paint on the walls (my boyfriend's really into remodeling, and was repairing holes in the wall when we first moved in, and yep, it's dirt cheap primer). The dirt cheap primer created HUGE HUGE mold spots in our bathroom where our towels hung!!!! It was so disgusting- and could have been prevented if they had used quality paint.
2. Getting packages is a pain if you work normal working hours- this is true. I ordered a huge featherbed and went to go pick it up in the office. I'm 5'1 and am not able to carry large items- I obviously do not have a large arm span. I was struggling so hard to just pick up the package and then try to get the door open. The ladies in the office were not only laughing at me, did not offer to open the door for me, but had the nerve to remark "that's a big package!"- yeah, no
s%$#!!! So a VERY nice maintenance guy carried it to my car, followed me to my apartment and brought it upstairs for me. We never had maintanance work done, so that is the reason I am rating the maintenance as "average"- because this guy was really nice.
3. They put these "stoppers" on the windows at some point during the winter- that only allow the windows to open like 4 inches. In the spring, when it was only like 70 degrees outside, we had to turn the air conditioning on because we could not get enough air flowing through the apartment to cool it down, even though it was a nice temp outside.
4. There was some water damage to the celing in my bedroom- just another example of shoddy craftsmanship.
5. I called in November about silverfish we had in our apartment, and Linda accused me of not knowing what I was talking about, but said she would send the bug guy out on the last Thursday of the month (which happened to be Thanksgiving). Not a big deal. Did they show up in December or any month after' Nope...there are still bugs there, just waiting to greet the new residents.
6. Dogs. I LOVE dogs. Absolutely love them- can't wait to own a home and buy a couple of them. Steeplechase has a 50 lb. wt limit on dogs. There was a German Shepard living in our building. There was a yippy dog that was constantly on the deck of the apartment across from ours. There was dog crap EVERYWHERE. If you impose a wt limit, stick to it. Also, please pick up- so the lawn looks decent.

Overall, we liked our apartment. There were some nice features to it- different than other apartments we looked at. It was a good apartment for roommates. We got a little less than we paid for. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone though- it's pretty funny because I got a whole b%#$@ fest going about Steeplechase at Creative Hair Design, where I get my hair done. I'm obviously not the first to have problems. You can do better than this place. We moved somewhere that the landlords know our first names!!!!
