Only a complete fool would live here!

Years at this apartment: 2000 - 2002
Where do I begin' As I am writing this, I can hear the neighbors above me walking to answer the ringing phone. Someone's dog is barking and someone else is mowing their lawn. As you can already tell, the insulation here is nonexistent. I want you to realize that you can hear EVERYTHING that goes on around you (and everybody can hear you).
Parking is a nightmare. There are no reserved spaces. If you come back home later than 8pm on a weekday and 9pm on a weekend, GOOD LUCK finding anything in the whole complex.
Security is a joke. In the two years that I have lived here, the "security" gates have only been closed off and on for a total of two weeks. Even if they happened to be closed, one could open the gates by driving all the way up to them. Also, we have been visited by solicitors at least a dozen times. When I called "security," all they did was say that the solicitors should not be there. They did nothing else.
As for the actual apartment, it is little more than a cardboard box with cheap white paint. After I moved in, I learned that this whole complex was thrown up in less than 3 months. I will leave you to draw your own conclusions regarding workmanship. You can only do so well using the cheapest materials in the least possible time. The only positive of the apartment itself is that the appliances are fairly new. However, when you use the dishwasher, washer, or dryer, be prepared for the noise to dominate the whole apartment.
Regarding the women in the office, they are a bunch of unprofessional and uncouth hicks who could not care less about their tenants. Don't expect even the most basic courtesy or the least amount of competence. Once you move in, they will treat you like the many piles of pet excrement that permeate the complex. Also, as an aside, ever since 9/11, the office refuses to accept any packages from the United States Postal Service. Therefore, anytime you recieve a package, you have to go all the way to the actual post office to pick it up. They claim that it was a corporate decision and that there is nothing they can do about it. However, I believe that they are a bunch a paranoid cowards, especially given that they still accept UPS and FedEx packages. However, given how they treat their tenants, they could rationally have something to worry about.
The neighborhood that the apartments are in is a souless surburban-type area. The complex is surrounded by cheap cookie-cutter housing. Demographically, it is a notch above a trailer park. It is right next to a Home Depot and not far from a Super Target, so you can guess the types that reside around here. As far as the eye can see, there is urban sprawl. There is no character or imagination in the entire neighborhood. For anyone who has lived in a major metropolitan area, this is a living hell. However, I am sure that to some people, this is a sort of fools paradise. To sum up, if you hate low-class homogeneous suburbia mentality, you will hate the neighborhood.
Steeplechase is located on Maple St., so the traffic is slow during peak times (really due to the City of Omaha's failure to synchronize the traffic lights on Maple coupled with the fact that most people in Omaha drive like 65 year olds). Consequently, it takes a fair amount of time to get to the interstate, so the location is not great if you have to go anywhere near downtown (i.e. 30 min. commute).
Finally, the people here hate living here. In the two years that I have lived here, all of my neighbors have changed 3 times. Forget it if you actually want to meet your neighbors, for they will be gone by the time you bake your "welcome cookies." You can actually feel the lack of morale and pride when you walk around the complex. All anybody talks about is when they are going to get out of here.
To conclude, I hope that I have convinced you to not waste your time and money living here. If you choose to live here, God save your soul. Don't let the facades fool you, Steeplechase Apartments is an all around loser.
