I recently signed my third lease with The Vanderbilt. At that time I asked the office to come fix the tiles in my shower because they were coming loose. A week passed and I did not hear anything. I called the office and they said they didn't realize the shower had not been looked at. The next day a maintenance man came to my door and he said he had already told the office I needed a completely new shower and that the tiles couldn't be fixed. Boxes of new tiles and grout were dropped off and stacked against the wall in my bathroom. Another week passed and the wall of tiles broke and fell into the bathtub. I called the office again, they were not aware the problem wasn't fixed. The following Monday I received a call stating I needed to shower else where for 48 hours. The manager called me and told me there was a "miscommunication" and I would be compensated with free cable for one month, a 39.00 value.
Two weeks later I had stepped into my hallway in front of the furnace closet and the carpet was soaked. I called the office when they opened, they said they would send someone out. An hour later a maintenance man showed up and could not figure out the problem (Later the story changed). Another company came to clean the carpets. Approximately three hours later, water was pouring out of the furnace closet. This time the water was going into the bathroom and my bedroom closet. I had to call the office two more times before someone came out. The toilet was overflowing, there was black stuff in my bathtub, and my kitchen sink was clogged. Three maintenance men came this time and they decided to call a plumber. Ten hours after this all started, the plumber showed up. He removed my toilet, he had forgotten to tell other tenants not to flush. Somebody flushed and human feces erupted all over my bathroom floor. The men told me to put shoes on because it wasn't sanitary to be barefoot. At 8:00 PM the problem was fixed. There was a huge mess that nobody was going to clean up. The office was closed, I had no choice but to clean it myself.
I wrote a letter to the corporate office and included pictures of the tile and my bathroom. I requested to end my lease without penalty. My request was not granted, however I was offered $50.00 off my December rent and new flooring in the bathroom. I have declined their offer and I am in the process of taking further action. I know that my situation may not change, but if I would like to help future apartment seekers from suffering the same problems.

Oh my god. That is horrible! Best of luck to you... you're not alone. I know a lot of people who have been done wrong by the Richdale Group/Slossberg.
