Though "she's" exempt of nearly every modern convenience, the White House Apartment building in Omaha is a treasure.
From the grandeur of the lobby to the vintage 1898 elevator to the funky terrazini tiles in the bathrooms, the White House truly exudes a unique beauty that not everyone is equipped to appreciate.
Rent is cheap, the super friendly maintenance and management staff are priceless, and the free off street parking is a true perk given the escalating business of South 10th street.
The entrance is secure, too.
Plus, the White House is within walking distance from Omaha's greatest asset, the historic Old Market district.
You can even "hoof it" down to the Qwest Center if you've wrangled tickets to anything from Cirque du Soleil to Tom Petty to (gasp) Monster Truck races.
The Sons of Italy is right next door in case you're in the mood for a true spaghetti feed.
The main post office is right around the corner, too.
And, given that the White House is right in the heart of the Little Italy district, the neighborhood is peppered with charm and character and plenty of history.
Omaha's annual Santa Lucia festival parades right down our street.
I've heard that the White House used to be a hospital.
I've also heard it was once a dormitory for a nearby bible college.
Rumors of ghosts in the halls, particularly a woman in a white gown, are on the internet if you're curious.
I can't confirm or deny any otherworldly activity myself, but to be honest I'd consider a little spookiness to be yet another perk.
The White House is QUIET.
There's also a creative vibe.
Many of the apartments are rented by art students and young bohemians.
All of my neighbors are friendly, at least the few that I've met.
We're also starting a community garden.
If you can live without a shower (yep, baths only) and are hip to economizing spacially, you could call this home.

Obviously the landlord is the one who wrote this review. The landlord is known by everyone as extremely rude. The apartments are TINY - the whole thing is literally the size of an average bedroom. And while it could be a nice building, the owners have let it deteriorate noticeably.

Gina is not rude! I lived there for a while in a studio, but I love showers, so not having one sucked. And there was a terrible draft. It's my understanding they purchased this building along with the Cornish house to prevent them from being torn down. They don't have a lot of money to properly repair and upkeep the places, which is really unfortunate. At the same time, I was only paying $350/month for my studio with all utilities included wifi and parking, walking distance to Old Market. That was a couple years ago.
