I've been living at Alton Woods for about 7 months now, but I plan on calling this my home for a long time to come!!! I couldn't be happier with my experiences living here, and I tell everyone I meet what a great place AW is to live.
I am a 28 yr old woman with physical disabilities, so accessibility is vital to me. Even with the awful winter we've had here in NH, the grounds crew at AW have been wonderful. They did a fantastic job removing the snow to the best of their abilities (there was a LOT of it!) and even made sure that my pathway was clear so I could still leave the apartment. And now that the warmer weather is here, they are out cleaning up all the sand and debris! The upkeep is extremely impressive, and impeccable!
I wanted to address some of the complaints in other reviews, most of which seem to be 6 or so years old, I noticed. Yes, there are a lot of seniors living at AW, but there are a lot of families too! And I've met several young singles, such as myself. There is definitely a mix here, and I've found that I get along with everyone wonderfully! The seniors are NOT crabby and nasty. I can't begin to tell you how many people have come up to ME, and said hello, and welcomed me to the community. It's been heartwarming.
As for the noise level in the apartment, and "paper thin walls"...personally, the noise that I hear is minimal. You have to expect to hear some noise...it IS apartment living after all. But I've never had to make a complaint about a tenant, and I DON'T hear every little noise that happens in the other units. I find everyone to be quite respectful!
Now on to the office staff. I find that they are absolutely wonderful! I've NEVER been treated like just a tenant who they collect the rent from. I'm treated like a community member, and a friend. If I have any questions or concerns, Melanie and Roberta are wonderful. Not only are they attentive, but the issue is usually addressed and resolved within 24 hours, if not immediately.
Aside from the staff and the tenants and my apartment itself, I also love the surrounding area. AW itself is very beautiful and peaceful! I go for walks everyday, and I never feel like I'm just wandering a parking lot. The trees that surround AW are wonderful to look at. There is a playground for children, a tennis court for the athletes, and garden plots for tenants with a green thumb. In the nice weather, there are always people out with their kids or their small dogs. There is never a lack of social interaction, yet it never feels crowded or too busy!!! I can't wait for the summer, so I can try out the pool. (It is surrounded by a privacy fence, so you won't feel like the world is staring at you in your suit as they pass by, haha!)
If the outdoors aren't for you, there are always activities going on in the clubhouse. Scrapbooking, card games, rummy cube...The clubhouse has a beautiful living area with brand new furniture and a big screen tv.
I really cannot rave enough about AW. I truly do love it here. I have met so many people who have lived here for anywhere between 12 to 20 years, and love it. I've met people who lived here, moved elsewhere or even bought houses somewhere else, and ended up moving back to AW because they loved it so much. THIS IS NOT A COINCIDENCE! The serene country setting and great community, coupled with a mall, a shopping center, a bank, and several restaurants all within walking distance, make AW a wonderful place to live.
