Management:
I have lived there for 4 years. Generally, this place offers reasonable rates for a nice, quiet and safe accommodation. Maintenance calls are always responded in a timely manner, and the ladies in the office are always nice to speak to. They even have a cute dog in the office that eagerly greets you as you enter. The management takes good care of the building in general. They made the building more energy efficient by switching everyone to CFLs and upgrading everyone to electronic thermostats with built-in timers. They've also upgraded every unit with hand showers; and they paint and re-carpet the building every so often. The lawn and surroundings are also taken care of well. Other than appliances and fittings listed below, most of the issues I found were actually from other residents.
Building:
The appliances and fittings are a little old. I tossed out the old yellow medicine cabinet with lighting that has yellowed with age in the bathroom and fitted some newer mirrors and lighting on my own. The freezer isn't frost free, and I did my laundry outside in a laundramat because the dryer in the building was not only expensive, but doesn't get hot enough to dry my clothes properly. For me, it's a minor inconvenience; because that means I could do my laundry in a triple loader instead of the single load. There was a cockroach problem in my apartment but this got taken care of swiftly by the management; kudos to them.
Utilities:
Cable service provided by Comcast. Minimal outages. Satellite TV is allowed and dish can be mounted on the pillars of the balconies. Power is provided by Unitil, but you will need to reset your microwave clock frequently as there are frequent short outages. These outages may only be for a few seconds, but enough to reset your microwave clock.
Other residents:
There were some inconsiderate residents/guests in my building that insists on propping the main door open with the doormat, disabling the electric lock - even though security was never an issue. The back door was also frequently left open - someone always disconnects the door closer - letting frigid air in during winter, and bugs in during summer.
A guy 2 floors above used to smoke and throw his cigarette butts all over the front of my patio. There were literally almost 100 butts right outside my patio door. Complaints to the resident directly as well as management finally made him stop - I wasn't sure if he actually stopped or he left.
There is also a group of ------- (probably refugees) who live in the complex. They can be sometimes seen talking on their cell phone loudly in the corridor late at night without any consideration. I've also heard them shouting loudly at their women (maybe it's a cultural thing). I have seen them allowing their (really) young kids to run around in the parking lot areas unsupervised! Once, I've even seen one of these families happily "dumpster diving" with their small kids, with one of these kids running back home happily balancing an old coffee maker on his head! I've also seen some of these men trying to teach their spouses how to drive in the parking lot... one actually jumped the kerb and hit the building wall (my neighbor's apartment). Thankfully it was a minor fender bender. You can see that majority of them drive beat up cars or cars with fresh collision damage.
Open parking is normally adequate in the compound, but sometimes, some student throws a party and it would cause a problem in the evenings.
In conclusion, this is generally a good, safe and affordable place to stay, but with affordability, you get some undesirable neighbors who don't know how to behave.
