It's a really decent place to live

Years at this apartment: 1995 - 2003

I lived in Sawyer's Mill apartments for 8 years. I moved in, August 1995 and left in Oct. 2003,it was an emotional goodbye. It's easy for me to get "attached" to a place, but what you want to hear about, are the basics. We'll start with getting in the place. I believe it's now a bit easier to get in, in terms of a waiting period, as the home market has been so active. When you apply, they will do a credit report check, and any positive references you have will certainly be helpful, as I remember mine being some time ago. The "Office" manager will most likey be the one you deal with dierctly, who is more of a people person than the "Property manager". Though I must say, the Property manager has softened over the years and is even pleasant when you get to know her. The office manager, is very nice, very thorough, and very professional. When looking at various apartments, consider your tolerance for noise and ask questions. The apartments without drop ceilings and neighbors on all sides are noisier (of course). The apartemtns with drop ceilings (covering the "charm" of the original beams) are better insulated for noise, and for keeping in the heat (the ceilings are high). I also recommend you consider your noise tolerance when living next to the cocheco river runoff that flows through/by the apartments, as the older windows can rattle when the water level is up and running harder and faster. When moving in the apartments are freshly painted, well cleaned, and lately, updated with new carpet if needed for rental. They really do a nice job getting a place ready, and, if you notice anything not up to snuff, I recommend you bring in to their attention diplomatically (it shows interest in wanting a nice clean place to live in) and they are open to constructive criticism and rectifying oversights. The rent is non-negotioable, but still reasonalbe for the area. High points: 1) Nice and clean upon move in 2) Reasonable rent 3) VERY conveniently located to "Spaulding turnpike" and "I95" (and downtown Dover). 3) Responsive staff, maintenance 4) Charm of an Historic Mill building 5) Clean common areas 6) Laundry on 3 of five floors in main building with very nice new washers and dryers and chargable money cards for operation. Low points: 1) Parking can be a hassle if you have more than one vehicle, and have guests often 2) Noise can be a problem depending on your noise tolerance and where your apartment is located in the building. 3)Heat and airconditioning exchange unit is a bit loud. Note: My rent was lower as I was considered a "long term tenant" and only incurred slight yearly increases.
