Problems from day one

My husband and I needed an apartment in a hurry -- we'd been renting a house that was on the market, and the new owners wanted to occupy it. We found Sunset Ridge and our problems began.

We picked out an apartment, only to be told several days later that there was a mistake, that one was already rented, and to choose another. We did so, and the same thing happened a second time. We were unable to go there in person to pick out yet a third apartment, but they promised to select a quiet location for us. The "quiet" apartment turned out to face the complex playground, which was populated by chilren enjoying their freedom from supervision by screaming profanity at the tops of their lungs at all hours, which almost drowned out the traffic noise from the interstate highway. (there were vacant apartments elsewhere in the complex)

Things went from bad to worse. Maintenance was delayed or incomplete. A leaky drain flooded the basement storage areas for over a month before it was fixed. Minor repairs to the apartment was never completed. The only thing they seemed to be able to do on schedule was cash rent checks. The building fire alarm system went off during every severe thunderstorm, leaving tenants huddled in the vestibules (it was too loud to even dream of remaining in an apartment) until the fire department was summoned to reset it. Since this generally affected numerous buildings in the complex, it was often a long wait. The outdoor areas were used as a communal dog toilet and stank accordingly.

The woman who managed the complex was rude, hostile, and incompetent; in fact, when we spoke to a neighbor who was moving out at the same time we were, they said she was one of their primary reasons for leaving. As one example, she threatened to have tenants' cars towed even though the minimum amount of snow required for us to move our cars had not fallen, and was not going to fall -- it had changed over to rain -- becuase she'd already called the plow company, which proceeded to move slush and water around the lots for a while.

The last straw was the second 15% rent increase they hit us with in as many years. We're living in a much better and cheaper place now. With no dog manure. qmzu4EHcaGAPVCPw2Fai
