Surprised by the Negativity

Wow! I lived at Washington Park for 3 years and am surprised to see so many negative reviews posted here. It was certainly not my experience at all.
Sure the clubhouse should be open a little later than 8 pm, but I didn't have a problem adjusting my schedule to accommodate this. My husband worked late, so the hours weren't ideal for him, but Planet Fitness is about 1 mile away and is only $10 a month.
I never thought the walls were thin. Sometimes I would arrive home after work and the person across the hall would be playing loud music, but as soon as I closed my door I didn't hear it at all.
Parking is not an issue for those that abide by the rules. There are parking lots for every building. If you rent a 1 bedroom, you get 1 spot; 2 bedrooms gets you 2 spots. If you have more vehicles than the spots allotted to you, then you need to park on the street. There is no parking allowed on one side of the street...so if you park on the illegal side, guess what' You will be towed. Signs are posted everywhere so there shouldn't be any surprise. That said though, parking IS an issue when it snows and you need to move your vehicle to allow the plows to come through. It's almost impossible to find parking on the street then, so we always went someplace when the plows came so as not to deal with the hassle.
I thought the staff was wonderful. I needed to break my lease 1 month early due to a work related move and they were quite helpful as I moved an acquaintance into my unit to take over the lease.
The negatives for me were the following:
* The kitchens needed to be upgraded. The cabinets and appliances are old. I would always complain about it during the annual survey. They work fine, but the immediate impression is OLD.
* The balconies need to be re-painted. The paint was chipping badly.
* The hallways aren't in immaculate condition.
* If you have a large sofa as I did, it is hard to get it through the front door. We got ours in through the balcony.
I am a VERY picky person, so for me to stay there almost 3 years should tell you that they are doing something right! Also, I got my full security deposit back even though I had broken the towel rack when I tripped and did a poor job trying to patch up the hole in the wall myself.
SIDENOTE: I stayed at Countryside Village the year before I moved to Washington Park and moved after 1 year. The grounds and units are beautiful and the staff is friendly, but the quality of residents was AWFUL. My car was broken into TWICE and the man down the hall would abuse his wife/girlfriend/baby mama - whatever she was. The cops were always called to the building.
