Not Home Sweet Home

I've had a number of issues with Washington Park through the last year - first and foremost, don't be fooled by the beautiful model they'll show you on your initial visit. Those gorgeous cherry-wood cabinets turned into some hellish, fugly throwback cabinets from the 70's (original fixtures with 30 years worth of grime accumulated in the nooks and crannies included) when I saw my actual apartment on moving day. I almost cried - the cabinets are THAT ugly. The apartment was a mess when we first got there. The agent who showed us the place said she would send some housekeepers - they never showed up. Maintenance had left some tools, paint and a bucket in the apartment - lovely.
I will randomly get brown water in the shower/bath. I called the office about this and they shooed me away with the excuse that it's a "city issue". Real helpful. I'm convinced it's not a city issue but an issue with one of the water heaters - the brown water always appears when the hot water is about to run out. They probably just don't feel like dealing with it. I won't drink water from the tap - it goes through the Britta first.
We were delighted that the complex had a clubhouse with some exercise machines available. I used the gym approximately 5 or 6 times and will never go back. It's always filthy and usually overrun by screaming kids rollerblading or climbing all over the equipment. Nothing is ever done about this. I complained once and the woman at the office dismissed me and said that it would get better once the pools opened for the kids to play in.
The plowing policies are a real pain (and we didn t find out about them until we had signed the lease). It s not bad if it snows on a weekday and you have to be out for work, but god forbid you d want to sleep in on a weekend or something.
After all this I was content and planning on renewing my lease because I hate moving with a passion that burns brighter than my distaste for Washington Park. But now there s some issue with the roof and my bedroom roof is leaking (I m on the first floor, for crying out loud) AND I have a swamp for a bedroom carpet. I called maintenance 4 or 5 times about this, the most they ever do is poke a hole in the ceiling for the water to drip out of and completely ignore the floor. The floor is getting worse and worse the carpet is SOAKING WET from god knows what so they sent someone in and he SHAMPOOED THE CARPET. I have no idea what shampooing the carpet was supposed to do. I m told nothing can be done until the leak can get fixed, but nobody will tell me when that s going to be. I guess they expect me to just live with this'

These comments sound pretty accurate.
Unless you are "in good" with someone in the office you may be in trouble (luckily they like us).
Our plow time isn't until 12:30 p.m. so that isn't a problem for us, but when it snows can't be controlled by the office. They do a great job plowing when everyone gets their car moved.
They use every excuse in the book (not ready, insurance liability because "work is being done") not to let you see your apartment until you sign the lease on moving day because they know they "have you" then. If you bug them A LOT they will replace the 1970's hideous cabinets etc. Our place didn't have wallpaper like the model and when we asked they lied and said they didn't do that anymore, then we found out from the painters they did and were just trying to brush us off. It is a new management (again) now and they seem to be a little better.
There are constant problems with the roof leaking despite getting it reroofed a year or so ago, but they use cheap fly by night people and that is what you get!
We had a problem with a terror kid and they seemed to get right on it. They do not want bratty kids wrecking their property.
We have more trouble with disgusting smokers littering the outside with their butts and losers leaving empty beer bottles in the hallways.
All apartment complexes as large as this one are going to have problems, it's bad, but it's not all bad.
