I've lived here for a bit over a year, and I've yet to live through the horror stories listed above. Any calls into maintainence result is very prompt response, often the same day. My car has not been trashed in the parking lot and my fire alarm doesn't go off all the time. Some people just can't be pleased. As far as price goes, an apartment in the Greater Lowell area with the same ammenities go for MUCH higher rental rates ($400 a month more in one Andover example). Find me an apartment over 1000 sqaure feet with two bedrooms (each with their own FULL bathroom), central air conditioning, and an in-unit washer and dryer for less than Bay Ridge.
Plus Bay Ridge's location is perfect for me and my Westford Commute. You are close to everything you would want, yet far enough away not to know you are near everything. If you work in Burlington or Lexington, you have no right to complain about your commute from Southern NH... Why did you move to Nashua'
