I would rather live in a card board box

When we moved in here (my boyfriend and I) the apartment was totally renovated. New carpets, new appliances, new cabinets, toilet, sinks, (no new bath tub though) and fresh paint on the walls. The downfall was, is that they do a half ass job. They must've saw the ceiling in the bathroom leaking and just slapped some plaster on it so it looked fixed, now we have mold growing on the ceiling, its absolutley disgusting. Second, all the caulking is poorly put on. I think they caulked everything they saw moldy, instead of replacing it. Our shower is so gross I actually gag when I have to go in it. There is scum on the tiles that even bleach won't take off.
I hate the fact that there is no lighting in either of the bedrooms, or the living room. I had to buy about 7 lamps for proper lighting, especially in the bedroom when I sit down at my vanity to do my make-up. As for the kitchen light, it's so damn bright I call it the "incubator" because I think I could hatch chicks under the friggen thing. It's definitley cafeteria lighting.
The second bedroom is so small. Thankfully we only have to use it as an office and guest room, but if we had a child I don't know how you would fit anything in it. It's the size of my walk in closet at my old house. But I cannot complain about the master bedroom, it is pretty spacious.
We live on the first floor on Danforth Rd., and we are facing the street so we have to keep our blinds shut because everyone walking into the building can see right into our apartment (not really anyone's fault) But I hate the blinds, they are so ugly and cheesy. I had to buy real curtains so I could feel at home.
The kitchen is so inconvienent. The fridge is so small, and no matter what setting we have it on, it freezes EVERYTHING, even the vegetables in the draws. As for the cabinets, they are awful, you can barely fit anything in them and it would be nice to have handles on them. Our dishwasher broke once, and it took them 4 days to replace it. My number one complaint about the kitchen is the bright white cheap kitchen linolium floors. They are so white that you can see any speck of dirt that gets on it. When I first moved in I had to wash the floor at least 3 times a week to keep it looking half way decent. It scuffs so easily, you can see every shoe mark on it. Finally I got so fed up with it I went to Home Depot and bought a rug that covers the whole thing.
When we moved in we had no screen on our sliding door. That took about another 4 days to fix. As for the noise, its ridiculous. Every time someone enters the building we can hear the door open and slam and then it sounds like elephants going up the stairs. The walls are paper thin, I can hear everything that goes in the apartment next to me (only when I am in the guest bedroom or bathroom.) Every morning I wake up to some type of noise. It might be the beeping of the damn Market Basket trucks at 4am, or someone plowing and the beeping noise their truck makes, or maybe I'm even luckier and maintenance is doing repairs on the building where I can hear everything they are doing and even saying. God forbid someone wants to sleep in on the weekends, it's practically impossible. So if you move in here, I hope you are morning person and get up at the crack ass of dawn. If you work 3rd shift you better take sleeping pills. In the spring and summer time the kids are outside playing by 6am for crying out loud. I am facing the tennis courts and get the great pleasure of hearing them every Saturday morning bright and early!!
Parking isn't too bad. I never have trouble finding a spot close to the building, and whenever I go grocery shopping I just chuck everything over the balcony so I don't have to drag it up any stairs or through the doors.
Rent is ridiculous. It's so high only because of the location it's in. But as for the looks and size of the apartment, it's definitley not worth the $995/m we pay.
I have to say the one thing I hate the most about this place is the smell of the hallways. It makes me sick, it smells like everyones food cooking all mixed together. It seeps into the carpets and walls. Whenever I have guests over they all ask what the awful smell is when you walk in. The entrance and hallways are not very inviting. The hallway carpets are always clean, but they need to be replaced, they are so worn out that they are turning dirty white and they are supposed to be grayish black. The turquoise doors need to go, they are so ugly and outdated.
In the summer time if you go swimming and bring back wet towels where would you think to hang them' Outside to dry them right' WRONG! I hung one towel on my chair on the porch and got a nasty letter telling me to remove it. It's not like I was hanging my laundry out to dry or had numerous towels hanging everywhere. They yell at me for that, yet the people next door to me have so much stuff on their porch, boxes and empty beer cans and so much clutter and it's been sitting there for months.
Well I could go on and on forever, but I am outta here in one month (THANK GOD!!) If you are looking to rent here, look some where else, you can find a better apartment for the amount a month they charge here!
