Not bad for recent grads, but I hope you like the smell of curry...

This is my first apartment since college and the experience wasn't too bad. Somerset is probably one of the larger complexes in Nashua with really good access to the the highway and most shopping areas. Grocery stores, banks, video, laundromat, etc. are just a few minutes away if not just across the street. I found the rent to be astronomical, but that's just the way it is in New England - the cost of living is HIGH. I pay $900 for a 2-bedroom, 1.5 bath. The master bedroom is a fair size, but the smaller one is just that - small. One of the nicest features is that we have an upstairs. The bedrooms and full bath are on the fourth floor and my kitchen, living and dining area are on the third. That's nice because the noise from downstairs TV doesn't interrupt me when I'm sleeping. There is plenty of parking, even when it snows, and there is a car care center with a hose and vacuum behind the building. The leasing office staff has been helpful in every encounter I've had with them. They even sent me a refund once when I overpaid my rent.
On the cons side, the maintenance could be better. I always take the stairs up to the 3rd floor because I've heard a ton of horror stories about the elevator getting stuck with people in it. And if that happens after hours, then you have to call across the street to the Crowne Plaza and have them handle the crisis. Strange. So don't take the elevator. Walking means that I have to traverse the other floors, where the air is saturated with the stench of curry from the ------- that live in the building. No offense, but it stinks on those floors. Also, we had a major leak last winter (December 2001). It's now January 2003 and the holes and water damage has still not been repaired. The roof leaked in 4 places - the bedroom, hallway, and in 2 areas in the bathroom. Maintenance promised to repaint and plaster our walls and patch the holes in the ceiling after they installed some leak-proof sealant in the roof. Still hasn't happened, and we've experienced leaking a few times this winter already. I made a call to the manager and they said "it's on the to-do list". That was 2 months ago.
Bottom line, though - as with any apartment, there are pros and cons. At Somerset, I think the pros slightly outweigh the cons. If you don't mind sketchy maintenance and curry in the air, walking vs. the elevator, this place comes pretty highly recommended.
