Been here 6 years, but have opinions...

Years at this apartment: 1998 - 2004

I have lived here for 6 years now, and there are a few reasons for it. The apartments are large and have a nice layout to them. I like having 2 sinks in my bathroom and a lot of closet and cabinet space. It is a convenient location for me. There are no kids allowed in my building, and no smoking which is nice and hard to come by. The second bedroom is TINY and only used for office space. I would never fit anyone in there.

I am now getting married and looking into getting out of here though because there ARE things I have complained about every year, and I just want my own place as soon as possible.
The downsides in my opinion are:

The rent HAS gone up every year I have renewed my lease. At least $40 a year. Granted, I probably am still paying less than most because of longevity - but still, NOTHING has been updated or done to my apartment since day one and I see no reason to be now paying a total of $200 more a month than when I moved in in 1998. I'd at least like to be offered some free carpet cleaning, some painting, ANYTHING!' But no.

Other pet peeves - the office staff. Especially the "Office Asst Manager" I believe she is. She is rude, nosey, and outright annoying. She is constantly acting as "patrol monitor" since she lives in the one of the buildings as well. If you have a guest that comes by and parks in someones spot by accident, not knowing where to go, she'll jump down their throat in 2.2 seconds, not even giving us a chance to say hello to them and direct them to visitor parking!

Snow removal is the WORST!! You have to get up at the butt crack of dawn to move your car of fear being towed. Then the plows are NEVER EVER on time, and you sit there forever waiting to move back to where you normally park, freezing your butt off. There is no designated area large enough for everyone to move their car, so its a parking nightmare while you wait impatiently for this to be over.

One example of the poor snow removal - This past winter I got out of work late, and attempted to get home, and drive UP the hill to my place which at 11pm and 6 hours after the snow had started coming down, the lot had not been even touched by a plow. I got stuck at the bottom of the hill, totally stranded. I had to park at the bottom of the hill, not even in a real spot since I couldn't MOVE in the half foot of snow. I had to trudge up the hill, not dressed for snowshoeing mind you - and as I am walking up I see the first tiny plow attempt to come up the hill behind me and get stuck as well! Nice timing. I was so ticked I left a very nasty message for the office and I never got a call or apology or ANYTHING! Next day I was plowed in at the bottom of the hill, and the Office Manager drove right by me and waved - didn't stop to help me get my car out or say sorry or anything. I was so ticked!

The electric heat is awful, you have to have it on so much in the winter, and all the heaters are right below the extremely poorly insulated windows, so you pay a fortune in heat costs. They only have screens on the windows and the fridgid air blows right through them all winter long. My bedroom is an ice box every winter.

Also the cabinets in the bathroom over the toilet are a great feature, but over the years the steam has done a number on them and are peeling profusely. They won't fix it, they said they'd remove it only and we could replace it if we want a new one. Nice huh' This also has happened to the cabinet over the microwave above the stove.

We have had a few years with problems of large black ants coming into the walls and showing up in the bedrooms and kitchen. I know they have put some any bombs in the ground around the building, but not sure how often they are refreshed.

The porches are large and great but are in desperate need of some TLC. The wood is weathered and needs some work.

Overall it's a good place to live if you live up the hill in the larger units. I couldn't live in anything smaller. It is quieter up here and I love the no smoking rules.
If you can deal with stuff never getting updated over the years, and things only getting done when you "write a list and leave it for them" - and even then it takes a long time - then I'd say, come live here. Just watch out for "HER" the "The Parking Natzi" as we liked to call her, she is just rude!
