This review is intended mostly for those out of state searching desperately as we did to find a rental location here in NH which you will find difficult at best. This is information based on our experience and that is what it should be read for, our experience and not judgment. There are others who will of course be use to different lifestyles that will have no difficulty here. If you have no pets then Keene offers more ample opportunities. If you have a family and are non smokers then this place will frustrate you with the constant infiltration of smoke.

These are beautiful buildings but that is the cover of the book. Tenement is located along rt. 10 amongst the junk and used car dealers and is across from a gas station. This is not luxury living however as there is no clubhouse, no pool, no fitness room, no media room, and no play area for children though the rent would suggest otherwise. There is a middle school close to the complex where the children can play on a limited playground but the school disallows anyone there during school hours or at least when there is recess for the childrens safety.
Our last location had a clubhouse with a fitness center, indoor heated pool with Jacuzzi, business conference room with a computer & fax machine, huge furnished party room with kitchen, a 100 " big screen theatre room, and every apartment had supplied to you a personal washer and dryer in it's own room off the kitchen at no additional charge. That Manchester apartment was $1395 a month as opposed to now at $1100 a month for just living space. Now we're getting basic apartment living with just a few more sq. ft. and more noise I could have never imagined. Only a few apartments have washer dryer hookups at an additional monthly charge but that is in a bedroom closet. There are washers and dryers on every floor of every building however but it's community use and you pay $1.25 a load washed and $1.50 dried. This building is extremely NOISY with banging doors which I'm told is worse in the other buildings other than mine, thin walls and non etiquette people. Buildings are of a wood framed construction and not steel like most new tenements. I've seen the plans. Our children are woken up at all hours of the night and early morning hours because their bedroom wall shares the noisiest staircase we've ever encountered. The darned thing is a kettle drum for feet. Our children have run to us in the middle of the night telling us they were scared many times now. I was told by the town engineer and property that the buildings are designed for thermal insulating and not sound abatement. We can hear the neighbor's alarm clock at 5:05am every working morn, snoring after 12:05am but mostly by 12:25am, garbage disposals, dishwashers, banging and chopping in the kitchen above, and other things. The whole family hasn't had a decent nights sleep yet since moving in to this particular apartment. Can't wait for the right opportunity to move northward now. We've tried the southeast corner and now the southwest corner and will now continue to the north eventually.
The school system here in Swanzey has very poor ratings in GreatSchools.net. The elementary rates a 3 out of 10 whereas Keene's elementary schools rate from 5 to 9.
Explore greatschools.net and search for the Monadnock school system, check for yourself.

The only perks for us have been the car port, though we had a fully enclosed garage at the last place; with 9x8 storage though somewhat environment exposed and apartment heat included.

Hey there your post is perfect for me because I am infact coming from out of state(Fl) and having trouble finding an apt. We do have a dog and every place seems to say no pets. We were recommended to this place by several people but I'm not sure now. I currently live in a gated community with clubhouse, pool, catered bar, tv and game rooms, office, etc. Those things are all nice to have and they accent pets here. Do you have any apts you can recommend in the Keene area I can't go far because my husband will be working for the PD possibly.. Thanks.. Tara

I'm sorry to say that Keene apartments are all anti-dog. We never found one except here in W. Swanzey. NH is mostly house owned so there a limited options for apartment living especially on the western side of the state. Your options are here 3 miles outside of Keene or a house rental. You can check with the ERA Masiello Group for rentals in Keene or www.nneren.com. Most real estate agents have a non-disclosed list of rentals so call them at the Office: 603- 352-5433
