Oh my god - these apartments are falling apart! Where to begin...
Screens on windows and windows in general probably date to the 60s, and the rest of the fixtures (railings, cabinets, etc) are probably of the same vintage. Everything just looks a little sticky and worn.
Maintenance doesn't really take complaints too seriously, either. As an example, my bathtub liner is literally peeling/flaking away from the tub (the super "fixed it" by caulking over the moldy, rotten bits, without actually replacing it, even though it has completely disintegrated in sections). The water turns off at random, and when it is on, we are lucky if it comes out hot 25 out of 30 days a month.
The grounds are unkempt (except of course for the lovely signage facing the main road - that's always perfect). The sidewalks and lawns are littered with cigarette butts (and dog poo - forget the pet policy, some people are exempt, apparently). Let's not even get into snow and ice removal in the winter - it just does not happen. Last year, I had to salt the entire walk on my own for days after a snowstorm, since maintenance just didn't find it important enough to get to it. There are no lights in the inner foyers (the super suggested my neighbor purchase a "tap light"), so you are left to fumble in the dark for your keys. Just wonderful!
Ah, then there are the neighbors. Normally, they are great, but you have a fair amount of younger folks, whose friends think it's a great idea to sit outside the building at 11 p.m. and LEAN on their car horn until said younger tenant comes out to play. Very nice when you get up for work at 6:45 a.m., really.
Considering the rent is nearly a grand a month, and rising, you'd think management would try a bit, but I guess it's either this, or live in a cardboard box around here if you can't afford to buy.
