Not what I thought it was

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007
I live at the Willows right now and I am getting ready to move out. When I first started looking I immediately went to this place because it was the cheapest- and that's pretty much what I needed. I knew that it wasn't the safest place, but I didn't have much of a choice. When I asked the management staff all they said to me was, "You have to be careful anywhere you go now-a-days". So I moved in.
Two years later, I am moving out. Not really because of the safety issue- I don't feel unsafe really at all. I had some issues with the management. It seemed like whenever I had an issue with my apartment and called for them to come a fix it, they never answered the phone and never answered me back. One time, when I needed them to look at my air conditioner (it wasn't cooling my apartment at all- maybe it has to do with the crappy windows I have), they didn't call me back and when they finally did call, they asked if they could come over right then and fix it- well I like to be there when they come into my apartment and I wasn't home so when I told them no, they said "well we are really busy and if we can't come over now then your request is going to the bottom of the pile". What kind of customer service is that' They didn't even offer to set up a time, so I had to leave where I was so that I could go home to take care of it. Another time, they just came in unannouced when I wasn't home. The excuse I got when I asked why someone came into my apartment without my permission' "The maintenance staff doesn't know whose apartments they have access to" What a lie!
So the final straw' When I got my rent renewal lease, I saw that they raised my rent $75!! The year before it only went up $10, and this year it is $75' That is outrageous. When I called to find out why the lady said to me- "That is the market value of the apartment hun". First of all, don't call me hun. Second of all, no- it's not the market value. My apartment is not worth $725 dollars. So I got tired of the lies and decided to find a new place.
Today, when I gave them my notice, a lady comes and talks to me- "Is there anything we can do to get you to stay' Is there a reasonable price you would be willing to pay that I could talk to the management about'"... WHAT' NOW you want to make a deal... no- too late.
All of the reviews have pretty much hit it on the head- it is a pretty nice place, and the size of the apartments are very nice, but the management is completely unreliable, and definitely make you feel unappreciated and unworthy of their time once you sign that lease.
If you can find another place, give it a shot- they told me they were making renovations to the apartments, and that is why the rent is increasing so much, but who knows if that was the truth or a lie... I wouldn't take the risk.
