Not bad for one year -- but get out after that
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 3/28/2004
Years at this apartment: 1999 - 2002
I lived at Lakeview for 3 years, leaving at the end of 2002. It?s funny reading the critiques of Lakeview, because I experienced EVERYTHING the reviewers ranted about (especially the "A COMPLETE GHETTO" review).
Here?s the deal -- if you?re in a pinch, and need to find a relatively affordable, relatively clean, and VERY spacious apartment for a year or two, you can do worse than Lakeview. Lakeview offered me a great deal on my first year?s lease ($525/mo., if I remember) for an apartment that was gigantic! I had a huge walk-in closet, a bathroom the size of a bowling alley, and a deck that had an awesome lake view. Considering the price, I believe I got value for my money. However, after the first year, they increased by rent to the point where I was going to pay $700 for a one-bedroom apartment -- this is when Lakeview?s MANY shortcomings became more noticable. Here they are, in order of annoyance:
1- The Parking -- Absolutely, shockingly horrible. The car slots are so narrow and unplentiful, it was like living in South Philly.
2- The clientele -- Look, I understand you have to put up with some miscreants when you are living in a lower to lower middle class enclave, but this was ridiculous. Should I start with the immigrants downstairs who fiesta?d until all hours of the night, or the drunkards upstairs who had a biweekly family crisis, or the Adams family across the hall whose matriarch had nightly phlegm regurgitation spells (right outside my bedroom window, for some reason).
3- The Noise -- You can hear everything, and everyone seemingly needs to be heard. Awful. And the ghetto-blasters -- don?t even get me started.
4- Bugs and Cats -- While the view is nice, living on a lake introduces you to all types of insect genus during the summer. I nearly had a heart attack one night when I turned around, and there was an insect (I think) the size of my fist with blue eyes, green body, and 4 legs HISSING at me. Also, the stray cats are of legendary proportions. The screeching and yowling are constants. And the smell of urine is always present.
5- Central Air -- Didn?t work, end of story.
I wanted to stay in Blackwood because I do really like the area. I moved to a place called "The Fairways" about 1/4 mile away. It?s been the complete opposite of my experience at Lakewood. I highly recommend it (if you don?t mind a waiting list). uWDgQKY3Vkv8FKIsB8Ax
