A Roof Above Your Head

When I relocated to northern NJ from NY I was looking for a place that wasn?t outrageously priced, was clean, quiet and away from the highway. In a nutshell that is what I got at Treetop.
The Good
A nice enough complex, and kept up well on the exterior thanks to Dave, Treetop?s resident jack-of-all-trades and a couple of caring residents. I had a one bedroom that was spacious enough for a single guy. The place could have used to facelift, but it was comfortable to live in. The construction was typical for a garden apartment and you could sometimes here you neighbors, but I never found neighbor noise a problem.
Electric power is from Butler Electric and it is cheap. Moving from NY my electric bill dropped by 75%.
The BBQ/picnic area is a nice touch.
The Bad
The apartment could have used a facelift, and the appliances were not great. The unit?s AC couldn?t come close to keeping anything cool. Some of the windows hadn?t been replaced, and the original windows are just about inoperable. At least the replacement windows worked.
The laundry room had only 3 washers (30-min wash time) and 3 dryers (55-min dry time), so as you can see the math just didn?t add up and you were always waiting for dryers. As you can imagine for the most part it was easier to hit a laundry-mat.
At times parking was tight if you had visitors.
The Ugly
There are railroad tracks that run along the boarder of the property. Fortunately I had a beautiful view into the trees out my bedroom window. However directly through the trees, railroad tracks. 3am freight trains suck.
I had a problem with pigeons nesting atop of the AC unit outside my bedroom. Pigeons are very vocal and from what I?ve found out very punctual birds. The daily routine of a pigeon is like clockwork, however the routines of the nesting pair of pigeons and I just didn?t get along. A small barrier fence made of chicken wire did the trick and the pigeons were evicted.
There really isn?t much of nightlife in the greater Bloomingdale area, so if your looking for clubs, bars or even restaurants, you?re going to have to get in the car.
