Thumbs WAY Up

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2007
Continuing to work in Midtown NY City at the time, I had intended to live much further north, up in Somerset County. But, I responded to an online advertisement for an available apartment here and immediately fell in love: with the apartment, the complex and the surrounding environment.
After lugging laundry back and forth in excess of 15 years, having my own washer/dryer was the biggest selling point. The bathroom is so ample you can do somersaults. And, for a tad more than what I was paying for a rent-controlled apartment in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, that was 1/3 or less the size of this place, I could have a pet (no dogs allowed, though), I would have access to a private swimming pool, I could garden (fortunately, I am in an end unit which means I can garden front AND side), and for years to come I would hear birds chirping and have a view out my rear screened-in balcony of trees and the meadowy expanse of the estate of Joseph Bonaparte (yes, Napoleon's brother and the former appointed King of Spain).
While the commute to and from NY City is a bit much, door to door almost 2 hours (a combination of driving to a lot, taking the Hamilton Township community shuttle bus and ultimately taking the NJ Transit Northeast Corridor rail line), the commute to Philadelphia is quite comfortable, 1 hour and 10 minutes thereabouts, made more efficient by NJ Transit's installing the River Line connecting Trenton and Camden (Camden having a transfer point to the PATCO high-speed rail), with a station right in downtown Bordentown... and the parking there is FREE.
Oh, speaking of Downtown Bordentown: one would typically never imagine New Jersey like this, but Bordentown City is like a Colonial picturebook. Apparently, within the past decade, Bordentown has undergone a revival, its main street lined with cafes and restaurants, bookstores and antique and novelty shops, and it boasts at least four annual street fairs, the longest-standing of which is the Cranberry Festival, in tandem with Ocean Spray having a regional headquarters and processing plant just inside the northern City limits.
On a final note: our rental office manager is the friendliest and most on-the-ball individual and she personally gets to know each and every one of the tenants. Folks here keep an eye out for one another and they keep the property spotless.
It is a joy to live here and I hope to continue living here for many years to come.
