When we first moved in, this seemed like a really nice place. We got a good deal on rent for 700 sq feet and two parking spots. Unfortunately, when there was a hard rain the parking lot flooded and water rushed in through our window at 5 am and we had to move out for a week. We had to fight them to not have to pay the rent and clean the carpet. Had this only happened once we could have let it go, but it happened 3 times. If not for this, we might have stayed, but the building manager wasn't too helpful when he commented that "water wouldn't damage the carpet" and just left a fan to dry the water. Very helpful.

The manager of this complex is very sneaky, and works hard at gaining your trust only to screw you if it is to his benefit. There are also problems with many of the tenants, that the manager has a direct hand in, involving the mentally ill (I can't discuss this in depth until I leave). He does the very least possible, and will bad mouth you to the other tenants, and the company he works for, if you complain about the lack of service. The apartments are managed by Kriegman & Smith, who are at the forefront of pushing the Vacancy Decontrol issue in New Jersey (Vacancy Decontrol allows a landlord to raise rents as much as 30%, in a rent controlled community like Caldwell, every time a tenant vacates). Since New Jersey has the second lowest apartment vacancy rate in the country, turnover is highly encouraged by the Kreigman & Smith management company. This could explain why the manager acts the way he does.
