I still live in the Victor Building.. but not for long! (same story for many other tenants I spoke to). I've lived here for almost 2 years. The first rent increase I saw was $35/mo which is less than a 3% increase (BTW, employers generally give raises at a base rate of 3% to accommodate the cost of living increase). I had no problem with this increase. However, this year they increased my rent by $75/mo!! That's over 6%!! (This might be illegal in NJ because they exceeded 6%, but I'm still looking into that).
This is the same story across the board, everyone is complaining about the rent increase. I have been paying attention to the empty rooms in the building, people are moving out, and empty rooms are staying empty!
If I lived in downtown Philly and had an array of new amenities or some sort of improvement, the increase wouldn't bother me. It's not an issue of being able to afford the increase, but the principal.
Also, if you plan on having guests, they better expect to get a parking ticket because there are NEVER guest parking spaces available.
Look out management! You either need to get a swimming pool, (and a bar with better service), or people aren't going to pay the new rates!

Most places reward their tenants for staying in the building, this place does not however. If you really want to stay at the Victor, still have no clue why, but just move apartments and then you do not have to pay the increase. Also, theme nights are what the Victor uses to justify the rate increases.

The rent increases include a simple reason: Dranoff's tax abatements from the city and state are being phased out. The increased tax is passed on. I lived there, liked it sorta ok, but not great, but value for money considering location is not there.

I am not surprised by these comments. I lived at the Victor 2 years ago and my perception back then was that this was a nickle-and-dime management group. The gap between my new apartment's management team at Bishops View in Cherry Hill and the small-minded management team at Victor is massive. I haven't received a rent increase since I have been at BV, and they keep doing more and more cool stuff for the tenants. It makes such a difference when the management group really cares.

not to mention the fees for everything, a parking fee of 75 monthly-only one spot is "given" per apartment even if you live in a 2-3 bedroom and a fitness fee. there is no such thing as a free amenity in this building!
