Absolutely NOT! A place of Sorrow if You Rent Here

I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. Well, maybe my worst enemy but definitely not anyone who has not offended me in anyway. You'd be better off spending the extra dollars for water, electric, and heat than go through the headache of dealing with the most incompetent, non-responsive, mis-management staff I've ever met or hope to meet in the future. All you get from them is a song and a dance but very little action. The apartments are large, this is true, but the buildings are old and poorly maintained but you don't really notice just how bad it is until after you move in. Unlike most owners of rental properties, The Colonials' owners do very little upgrades to the inside of their apartments even if a vacating tenant has lived in it for 20 years. Very rarily will you find a new appliance or new cabinets in one of these apartments and if you do, count yourself among the lucky. The ventilation system, when it's working, is less than satisfactory and the vents look like they haven't been cleaned in years. If you are a non-smoker, you might as well take up smoking because you get second-hand smoke, and all the other foul odors, from your neighbors who do smoke. I had to forget about using my balcony because the pigeons had taken it over. The pigeons are a real problem here and management has done nothing to fix the problem. Which brings me to my next point, my A/Cs were completely covered with with mold and mildew inside because they had never been cleaned by the previous tenant or the tenant before him (most likely). I asked management to have them cleaned (not the filters, I cleaned and replaced them myself), management refused to do it because it would cost them money, forget about my health and the fact that it was their responsibility. The A/C in my living room was situated right at the bottom corner of the wall where pigeons liked to perch and do their business on my balcony. I couldn't use it because it would suck in the pigeon droppings and what not. Needless to say, I went the whole summer without A/C because I refused to breath in mold spores and bird droppings. Another matter is the invasion of the tenants' privacy. The Colonials have security camera's installed on every floor and at all the entrances. Even in the laundry room. Not for the tenant's protection, mind you, but so management can spy and see whose not putting their trash in the right place or committing some other violation. Parking is limited so you end up driving around the parking lot a hoping someone would move their car. The biggest problem I had with this management staff was the fact that they would give out the key to a tenant's apartment without their permission to anyone they deemed had neccessary. These people were complete strangers and had no business being in the apartment without an escort. When I questioned one of the management staff, he said he didn't have time to escort people into a tenant's apartment so he just gave them the key. Another invasion of privacy which didn't seem to matter to management. Last but not least, this apartment complex accepts low income and section 8 families, nothing wrong with getting help when you need it, except, those who are in better financial status pays 2 and 3 times the rent they pay for the same marginal living conditions. I could go on and on with other examples but I think by now you get my drift.
