My Parkview experience

1. Theft
On the first day that we moved into the Parkview my laptop was stolen by one of the cleaning crew. This person was left alone in my apartment for two hours to clean my balcony while we were still in the process of moving our belongings in. When we returned the laptop was missing. This was reported to Parkview management. There was no police report filed because we didn t have substantial proof. The Laptop was worth 1,700 and has not been replaced.
About four months ago, there was a call put in for my dishwasher failing. I gave strict instructions to the maintenance do not allow anyone to enter the apartment while we were away because we have a lot of expensive electronic equipment. We came back in the night to find a note on our door stating that our dishwasher had been fixed while we were gone. Meaning the maintenance crew had entered our apartment despite our documented request. The next day when I was ready to do my exercise routine I came to the sad realization that my weight vest bad been stolen. Again there was not enough substantial proof that the maintenance crew did this however we do not entertain any other visitors, and the vest never left the apartment in our hands. A forty pound X-Vest cost 200.00

Ten years ago I lived at the Parkview at Diplomat Apt D619. One night I came home to find my Mitsubishi TV and DVD player stolen. I knocked on every door in the building to find out if someone saw anyone with my goods. No one came forward and reported the culprit so I decided to contact the police. The police stated that without substantial evidence or leads that it would be a dead end case. Then I remembered that the elevators were on camera. I visited the security office to have the taped rewound and played. It was to my surprise that all the building surveillance was working except the ones for the D building at the time which was purposely turned off. This is when I started to believe that it was an inside job. I got all the names of the maintenance people and personally visited them all to see if anyone had any idea what happened to my stuff. After being confronted with standoffish attitudes I decided to call it a night and started my search over the next morning. The next day there was a knock on my door from a stranger who lives down the hall that I had approached the night before. He came to me in confidence and told me that the head maintenance personnel who has the contract with the Parkview has a son who is on heroin. He also stated that he saw him leaving my apartment in the night. So I immediately contacted the police with this information. Before the end of the day I had gotten my goods back. The police explained that the maintenance person named Jerry who was at the time on heroin disabled the security taping system so he could carry out his dastardly deed. Since I got my thing back in working order I did not press any charges. Ten years later I returned to the Parkview because I thought this was an isolated incident; however, I see that this is a regular thing that goes on here.
2. Racism
There is an older gentleman who lives in the Parkview. When we moved in he would usually hang out with the cleaning crew outside around the loading dock or in the cleaning office. When I went down to confront the cleaning person about taking my laptop, this gentleman was present. The next day, my wife and kids were bringing groceries in using the elevator in the basement, and I exchanged glances with gentleman through the window of the cleaning office as I walked by. After several minutes of waiting for the maintenance elevator, my family and I heard him yell out "Stay out that nggers apartment". I don't know who he was talking to, but it was the day after I confronted the other gentleman about my laptop.
2. Unsafe closet doors
We have put in at least twenty requests for our closet doors to be replaced. The doors keep falling off the tracks, and the management as well as maintenance is well aware of this issue. These closet doors are a hazard, they have fallen on my children, including my 3 and 4 year old sons, and my wife while she was pregnant. I stop putting in requests because I felt we were being ignored. The last time I was hit in the head by the door I call the concierge and told them that I was going to put the doors in the trash room I was told by the concierge the would be intolerable and I would be subject to repercussions. To this day we are still being ignored and the doors have remained the same. Dealing with this was not a part of the lease agreement.
3. Lack of hot water
No matter what season it is. The A building has issues with hot water. It takes at least a half hour of running the water before it heats up to a temperature that is sufficient for showering or bathing. It was not a good thing to not have hot water half the time in the winter. Dealing with this was not a part of the leasing agreement.
4. Inconsistent elevator operations
When we moved in my wife was already 3 months pregnant. By the time she was big enough to notice, the elevators had already become a serious problem. While living on the eighth floor my pregnant wife had to walk up and down the stairs numerous times daily because the elevators were not working. This was not apart of the leasing agreement.
5. Inadequate Parking
Since we moved in we have received multiple tickets on our vehicle because the Parkview does not supply adequate parking spaces for its tenants. Most of these tickets were received during the winter months when my wife arrived home from work, there were no available parking spaces within a respectable distance form the entrance. She, being several months pregnant and dressed in business attire, did not feel comfortable walking over a distance of icy, slippery pavement. Some tenants have multiple cars. Adequate parking should be provided for all tenants. We pay to live here and we have a vehicle that needs to be parked. We do not want to park our vehicle miles away far behind the B building. This was not apart of our signed lease agreement.
6. Uncouth neighbor
Our neighbor in 820; God bless his soul, but he smells awful and if he come out into the hallway today the stench stays for at least 3 days. It s so bad my and son threw up. He s a nice guy but he needs to be in an isolated area, and management should not allow one tenant to disturb the quality of life of another tenant. I have called and lodged complaints of the smell coming from him and his apartment on multiple occasions.
7. Odors
There are odors that seep through the walls somehow. We have a newborn baby and take great precautions to keep her in a safe environment, away from smoke and other harmful substances. We cannot even keep her safe in her current home because cigarette smoke wafts in from surrounding apartments.
8. Laundry
The laundry facilities are dysfunctional. The card system does inaccurate deductions from the starting balance. Many times the system takes extra money to start or just does not start at all. I have also witnessed this happen to others and have overheard similar complaints while visiting the management office.
On two separate occasions after my clothes were dried in the dryers someone tossed my clothing out of the dryers onto the laundry room floor because I was not present when the dryer stopped. I contacted concierge on both occasions to have the surveillance tape pulled and rewound to see who the culprit was; however I got no help either time.
9. Microwave
The microwave has been inoperable for 3 months now. There were numerous calls put in for it to be fixed. With a large family such as ours the microwave not functioning has been a major disappointment.
10. Power Outages
The icing on the cake though, was the past few weeks when the A building experienced power outages on the 7, 8 and 9th floor for several days in a row. The temperature became so unbearable, and the children so uncomfortable that we had to leave the building in order to get any relief. We could not even sleep in our own beds. We could not see to change the baby s diapers, or respond to her properly when she cried, which she did non-stop from the heat. On top of that, I run a business and rely heavily on my phones to keep in touch with the people I work with. The power outages cost me a number of opportunities, and delayed others.
11. Basement Critters
The basement has issues that the board of health would not approve. On many occasions coming in and out of the building I see very large roaches walking in the hallway. I need not go into detail on this
12. Unexplained flies
For a two month period my apartment was under attack of flies. At first I thought it was because a window was open. For week I battled with killing fly after fly; sometime ten flies or more a day. I know for a fact these flies were not from our apartment because we keep it very clean. One day while in the bathroom I noticed flies coming in and out of my ventilation. We have made complaints that our bathroom vent because at time cigarette smoke comes out of it and it makes the apartment smell like someone was smoking. I mentioned the fly situation to a few of my neighbors and they were having the same issue.
13. Construction
The ongoing annoying sounds from the construction outside upsets my newborns sleeping pattern. There was never a time during our stay the banging was not a part of our daily lives. Since we have been here all the apartments accept one have been worked on. The hammers banging is beyond intolerable.
14. Bathroom
Our toilet, shower, and sink clog up constantly; no matter what we try.

I wouldn't dispute a thing this person says. While I personally haven't experienced each of his issues, I've experienced enough of them to know he's telling the truth.

Wow! That's all I can say -- except for "Thank you!" I've been a resident of Collingswood for 6 years and I live in a complex that charges about $200 less in rent. I've toyed with the idea of moving to Parkview because I've always thought that it had so much to offer -- the gym, the pool, the tennis courts, and the shuttle bus, as well as the location. I now see that I'm the one who actually has the better deal. I too have had to deal with odors, odors, critters, and stinky neighbors, as well as security issues and safety concerns due to uncleared ice and snow, but I've never once had to deal with theft or broken down doors and appliances -- or total rudeness. I am so grateful to get the lowdown on Parkview now before I decided to go for it and sign a lease, only to pay $200 more to live in an expensive complex that simply isn't worth it. Good luck! I hope you find the home of your dreams. :)

I agree with this guy. The laundromat was ----. Everything they have advertised, i.e. gym, pool, etc. is extra which I was never told until AFTER I signed the lease. There was never a parking space and God knows it's a big enough lot. Broken down cars sit there for years. Bugs, mice, etc. have overrun the B building. You can call them and ask them to spray your apt every week, but who wants to be poisoned to death??
The staff was totally disdainful of people once they had handed over the signed lease it was ridiculous. Trust me there are so many private houses, etc that you can rent in the Collingswood, Oaklyn, Audobon area...you do not need this ----.
