Hell Hole in Collingswood

Where do I begin with the long list of negatives of living in this hell hole. As if the physical condition of this joint isn't bad enough, you have the most irresponsible class of people I know -- dog owners. Share an elevator ride with these self-absorbed ignoramuses and their furry friends and you'll have fido burying his head in your crotch while their adoring owners, oh sorry, parents, giggling with delight over how cute their precious little ones are. God forbid if you object to having their mut jump on you while being trapped together in the barely functioning elevators. I especially enjoy the 2 morons in the B building who allow their babies to run around the hallway and onto the elevators unleashed. Nothing like a good shot of pepper spray to rein in these self-centered pinheads. To our "above it all" Property Manager who refuses to return resident phone calls, you could be the topic of the next review.

I love my apartment at the Parkview -- the location, the spacious rooms, the high ceilings, the noiseproof walls and - ohmigod - the view! But, it's lonely. If I want to go out, I must (a.)repeatedly throw myself bodily against the door to loosen the paint which seals the door shut. (b.) pray at least one elevator is working (d.) come home before 5 p.m. or forget about finding a parking spot. And I CAN'T invite guests here. The owners stripped this retro complex of its curb appeal, trees and shrubs and replaced its charming appointments with garish Vegas-like neon columns (thank God they don't flash). They painted over gorgeous brass appointments with hideous institutional grey. More than a year ago, they emptied the cavernous lobby of furnishings. They tore up the rich marble floor and put down WHITE TILE, where thousands of feet -- human and those of weak-bladder canines -- cross every day. Throughout, the unskilled labor painted over the old oil-based paint with latex, which is now riddled with unsightly chips, scrapes and peels. Despite my 11 years of complaining, the ceiling tiles in the hallways are broken, cracked, gouged, water-stained and foul with decades of grime --my personal favorite -- on the 9th floor of B building, someone has tossed a chunk of feces up on one of the tiles. (Did I mention the property manager LIVES ON THIS FLOOR?) The old people are washing clothes in their kitchen sinks, because the one elevator to the basement has been out-of-order for nearly a year. Tenants must drag their laundry down; then up scores of steps in stairwells where juveniles lurk to smoke dope and relieve themselves. The other 2 elevators work sporadically. Oh, the lack of parking - especially for the handicapped - the punks loitering around the entrance, the kids skate-boarding in the lobby around the traffic cones, ladders, mops and buckets abandoned there by "workers." But the worst every-day nightmare is the FILTH. Vacuuming has become unknown. The walls and elevator banks are covered with grease and grime. No Section-8 slum dwelling could be worse. I pay $1,125.00 rent, which increases every year, while services and quality of life decrease.
Every year, they promise me it will all be wonderful -- just be patient for a little longer -- and I renew the lease. And I'm patient. And it gets worse!
No view is worth being a prisoner in my own home. I'm outa' here when the lease is up. Maybe I can't replace the view or convenient location but, surely, for $1,125. I can find something clean and liveable.

I agree with both these reviews except for the "view"(I'm in A building and my view is of the parking lot and pool -- which is a source of screaming kid noise from the time it is open until closing.) In addition my walls are anything but noiseproof. I hear people yelling, babies crying, phones ringing. In fact, the noise is one of the things that bothers me most. Our building is fairly clean I think because the leasing office is here but service elevator inoperable for months on end is inexcusible. The elevator guys have zero work ethic. How long can it possibly take to replace elevators? At no time in the year I've lived at the Parkview have all three elevators worked at once. And they did raise the rent from $1150 to $1180. I can't believe they have the gall to even think they deserve a rent increase. I'm outta here too!! and move out day can't come soon enough. If you move into this place, if you have any standards of decency at all, you will regret it. The management is so desperate to rent these apartments however, even if you don't have any decent standard of living, don't despair; they will rent to you. Our lobby has new furnishings and already one of the decorative vases has been ripped off the table. Apparently maintenance glued it on but it didn't deter some moron from stealing it.

Diddo to both of you. I also live in B building. In fact I lived here from 2000-2002 moved out and then came back in 2004. What a change! There are roaches and water bugs all over the basement and ocassionally the first floor halls; great place to have to go to wash clothes. Luckily, I live on the first floor so I only have one flight of stairs to take to wash clothes. Take my advice go to a friend's home for this, the washers and dryers are filthy if they even work. And you can't beat the smell of garbage from the so called trash room that is rarely cleaned and emptied. Did you say dogs?!? Everyone has a dog and not little ones but huge dogs. Can these people at least have the decency to take the dog outside of the buidling to piss; of course not. People and pets use the hallways and stairways as the bathroom. By the way, I'm stuck between two apartments and I can hear every word from each. Noise, noise, noise....! No comment on the so called remodeling that will take way too long. I will say why would anyone paint a door brown:( I can't wait until my lease is up. I will be running out of this place.

I simply wanted to address the original poster's assertion that dog owners are "the most irresponsible class of people (they) know". Being a dog owner in the C building of Parkview, I have experienced similar behavior to what you describe in SOME of the residents of the complex (ie. allowing dogs to jump/sniff, and not cleaning up waste). However, I would like to note that since I have owned my dog, there has not been a single time that I did not pick up after him (whether on Parkview property or not), I keep him under tight leash control whenever he is in an enclosed space or a common area with other residents, and NEVER have I allowed him to 'do his business' indoors. I certainly cannot speak to the experiences or behaviors of other residents, and do not mean to defend the Parkview complex itself in any way, but on behalf of all responsible dog owners (there are more of us out there than you seem to think!), I take offense to your blanket judgment of our "class of people".
