White Van Galore!

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2006
When I moved into Hunter??s Glen almost a year ago I was new to the area and was looking for a great place to live. I was immediately turned on by the beautiful landscaping, the perfect models, and the ??Private Community?? sign right next to a three lane gate with a gate house. When I sat down with a representative they were extremely friendly and completely sold me on the apartment. The first experience here was the highlight of my one year stay. For those seriously considering Hunter??s Glen I will try to break things down to you the best as possible.
Parking Lot
Although you do receive one reserved parking spot, there are some flaws. The parking lot at Hunters Glen should be a dealership for used white work fans. The lot gets littered with them after 7PM. These vans will park anywhere??s with no conscious if the parking spot is actually legal or not, or even if they are in your spot! All too often I would come home and find a van parked in my spot or an adjacent spot next to mine. Most residents also do not car about their vehicles and assume you do not as well. I have two cars in Hunters Glen, one 2003 and a 2006. The 2003 does not sit in a reserved spot and needs well over $1,000 in repairs do to door dings and people hitting my vehicle in the parking lot. The 2006 does sit in a reserved spot and just recently received its first ding from a white van parked in an adjacent reserved spot illegally.
Community Roads
As for the community roads, the speed limit is 15 MPH. Watch out for kids running in front of you and be sure to really learn your way back to your apartment. The roads can be confusing at first but the difficult park is dodging the randomly placed dumpsters that stick out in the road. At night these dumpsters have no reflectors and are an easy target to smack into if you??re not fully paying attention.
Gate House
The short response to this is there shouldn??t even be one. The gatehouse hardly ever actually checks visitors in. I??ve seen numerous times the visitors?? gate just left open with no one inside the little hut. They also just let cars go right through without even questioning them. I even seen them let cars go through then later seen the car with a boot on its tire because they didn??t have a visitor??s pass. All this gate house is is a hassle.
Noise Level
I live on a second floor so I can not say how noisy it can truly get. I will say that work vans start beeping for their fellow co-workers as early as 5:30 in the morning. Also get used to car stereos at any time of the night/day. Other then that my neighbor from time to time feels the need to blast his stereo (I think it??s the kids when no parent is home), and I hear their door slam shut as if I was in the same room. My only other complaint is the ice cream truck. You hear it for about 2 hours straight?? every day. It gets to you after a while.
Grounds
I don??t come across much pet droppings and the grounds seem pretty well kept. This is one of the pro??s living here. You always see staff outside cleaning up, trimming trees, or planting flowers. As I mentioned before, it??s one of the things that originally sold me on these apartments when I first seen them.
Laundry Room
I really have nothing good to say about their laundry building. Most of the time the change machines to not work and the staff don??t speak English so they are no help when trying to get change or money back from a broken machine. Lots of cloths got ruined as well from previous users of the machine using unknown chemicals. And until recent the hours of operations were the same as a 9 to 5 office job. I stopped using their laundry room after my third load got destroyed in four months.
Safety
I feel safe here, expect with the Brinks Security system. My first night I tripped the alarm and did not know what my code was. The Brinks lady told me how to disable the system without ever verifying who I was. Although I can not blame this on Hunters Glen, it??s some what a scary thing when you think about it.
Construction
I have some complaints in the construction, but it even more lies on the people who prep the apartments. First the power outlets just do not make any sense. For instance for my Living Room the only outlet connected to that rooms power switch is an outlet that is less then a foot away from the stairs. None of the other 4 outlets are connected to the switch. This is a some what common layout for all the rooms. It seems they just wired what ever outlet was closes to the switch and not for what makes sense?? who puts a lamp ?? a foot from a stairway' As for the rest of the apartment my major complaint is the paint job. There are so many layers of paint on the walls it??s out of control. Lots of light switches, door handles, windows, and power outlets are just covered in paint. Some of the windows and outlets I never was able to use because they were disabled by paint. Lastly, things just seem like they have been fixed temporary from time to time. Doors don??t close correctly, door handles don??t work right??. Even my front door knob actually fell off one day.
Maintenance
When I first moved in I had about 6 things that needed to be fixed. In the next 24 hours I found about two more. Some of these included a leaking faucet, outside light burned out, a piece of metal bent walking into the kitchen (was sticking up), and some other various things. After calling four times and even going to the main office in person maintenance still has yet to fix my problems. To even add more insult, for over two months are hot water heater was broken in our building. All Hunters Glen did for our building was give us a one time usage $50 off coupon and a letter explaining that this was a generous gift since a water heater breaking is out of the control of their maintenance department. While this may be true to an extent?? two months to finally take a hot shower seems like it was in their control on how fast it could have gotten fixed.
Office Staff
The staff was stellar when I first moved in. After that it was pretty basic. I never had issues with the office staff, just the maintenance department.
Overall
Hunters Glen provides affordable apartments to fairly pricy. I had one of the larger apartments and paying just shy of $1000 a month I guess I expected a little better place to live. I believe Hunters would have been perfect if I was a different person in a different job career. I mean, I wouldn??t mind a door ding in a work van and such. There are good things about the apartments like being close to restaurants and surrounding cities. However in my experience the cons definitely out weight the pros. I can not justify renewing my lease. If you end up moving to Hunters, I definitely wish you have a better experience. I hope my review has aided you in making a decision. Good luck!
