Just because I find the conditions deplorable at the Courts does not mean I am from a privileged background. I just feel that paying $1000-1300 a month (not to mention a $700 maintenance fee as an owner)you should have basic, safe livable conditions.
I think my review was honest in describing the conditions. The condition of the Courts Apartment Complex is due to management negligence and homeowner apathy. It was not written from a privileged background just an opinion of a run down apartment complex in deplorable condition. The previous reviewer paints a portrait of kids playing on rolling landscapes and a perfect affordable place to raise your children. I guess you weren't in one of the many buildings that were infested with bed bugs. I guess you didn't have to put your clothes and your children's in garbage bags and have them sent out in a uhaul truck to be fumigated and returned to you a week later. I suppose you just think that is the price you have to pay for having your children not 'spoon-fed' and fun play dates.
Let's lay responsiblility where it belongs with the management. They do not s[ray for bugs in the buildings that is why there are bed bud infestations. If they had concern for their tenants their would have been monthly fumigations. Other complexes do this are a part of basic maintenance.
They Courts write up in their budget 35k a year for landscaping, you are lucky your lawn is mowed once a month. The walks are not salted and pose a danger when it snows in the winter. I guess you'll just put up with that...falling isn't so bad especially for the elderly. My wife fell twice just walking to our car. The landscaping is just negligent; I lived there for 2 years and never saw any improvements; they don't cut back bushes the place is in shambles.
The laundry room floods EVERY time it rains. This is because their is not adequate drainage due to draigs clogged with leaves and pin needles. Owners pay $700 a month in maintanence and the management can not even go out when it rains and clear the drains so that the laundry rooms do not flood. They are too busy smoking in their offices to get anything done.
The security lights are almost all out. How much effort does that take to replace' They don't...and why, because they do not care about you or your children. They could care less about their safety. I'm sorry you settle. You could get a better place for the money. I did.

I am sorry. I did not mean to imply that everyone who objects to the Courts must be from a privileged background. I just meant to convey that folks from a privileged background probably would not want to live in the Courts, because they would be used to a lot more luxery than what is offered in this Complex.
This is not to say that less privileged people -- in fact any people -- should tolerate the deplorable conditions you cite such as bed bugs. I did not know about that, nor have I heard any of my neighbors mention hat. This is not to doubt your word -- I am sure what you are saying is true -- and it is definitely not acceptable. Sometimes I have roaches (as I did in every apartment I have ever lived in, in Manhattan and Queens), and when I do see roaches, I call Management and they promptly send an exterminator which seems to solve the problem for a while. And yes -- the flooding is awful -- I mentioned that in my last post -- but we don't live in the laundry room and in my experience, they do clean it up (including floods from broken machines), within 2 or 3 business days. This is a lot better service than I ever got in Manhattan.
Regarding the lighting -- yes, it's bad. But the Management has assured that wholesale improvement of the lighting is on the docket, and since they have done a great job so far with the building renovations, I believe them about the lighting. If the lighting is not noticeably improved within, say, two years, then "Houston, we have a problem."
Also, it is my understanding that the landscaping is also going to be improved and again, if it is not improved within couple of years, it's going to be an issue.
Regarding the snow removal == I agree -- it needs big improvement. But Rome wasn't built in a day, and I believe that Management is going to turn that around, and soon.
In sum, I believe the Courts, while it has many defects, is improving. If I was to find a comparable sized condo (my apartment is 1100 square feet, with 2 big bedrooms and 2 full baths (which I don't believe I could find in East Brunswick), I would have to pay a lot more for it -- at least $2,000/month. I can't afford that and for that reason, I think I am getting a great deal with my apartment. And the piece about the children having a great place to play, and the heterogenaity of the tenancy (racially, ethnically, and economically), the A school system, and the fact that having a car is not essential living here are tremendous, tremendous advantages hard to match in other places to live in the surburbs.
