Great apartments, neighbours, etc - but expensive

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009

Apartments are great! And provided very clean, fully painted. On the downside, they will deduct $400 from your deposit to repaint/clean for the next tenant. So, basically you are the one paying for it.
Rooms are big. My master bedroom is big enough to fit a King-size bed a huge dresser and two oversized night-tables and a 32" TV rack. I can still fit two bedroom chairs
(if need be). Apartments have lots of storage. Kitchen appliances are high quality.
Apartments are carpeted and they provide you clean odor free.

Neighbors are generally good - not everyone in the community is the best but an overall good community.

Some of the things you must know - if you are planning to move in:
1. You are not allowed to use any sort of electric/gas/charcoal grills, not even on your own private terrace.
2. You are stuck with the Verizon DSL for your internet - which gets pretty slow in the evenings and over the weekends. The maximum bandwidth they will offer you (with a $15 upgrade) is 2mbps (which is a shame in 2009).
3. You cannot get your own dish - so you are stuck with Direct TV. If they dont have the channels you want then there is no way you can get those channels - full stop!
4. The cable already provided in the apartment is on analog signal. So you dont get quality. Something you dont want to see on your HD Plasma TV. If you upgrade to get a Direct TV box - their basic package is $12 a month but you dont get HBO (which you get on the analog signal). So, if you want to see all the channels on digital signal you'll probably have to pay something around $30 a month.
5. You cannot put your kids bi/tricycles in the terrace. If you do, expect to receive a 'notice to cease' letter.
6. If you break lease, you will have to continue to pay the full rent until the end of the lease or until 'your' apartment is occupied by new tenants.
7. Maintenance staff is excellent. But if you want to talk to management for something other than maintenance, then they don't answer their phones, and will not return calls - very difficult to get hold of a live person.
8. Gym has only three treadmills, one exercise bike, one stepper and one workout station. Gets pretty busy in the evenings - and it stinks (is not well maintained).

All the points above are more like an inconvenience than a real downside. Despite all the above issues I am not planning to move. But, if known upfront, it would have been better for me to decide and/or negotiate.
