Garden View Building D: No major failings, and many good things!

We've been here 4 months now and I'll review my experience here.

Overall, I'm very happy. Seriously, it isn't luxury, but they're reasonably attentive, honest, and helpful, and have seen to our every need. The complex itself is miscellaneous, older brick, and is right next door to Windsor Regency, with which it shares a playground and pool (I don't know if we're allowed to use the Regency playground but we do and it's nice!). The location could not possibly be better, within 5-15 minutes of groceries, the New Jersey Turnpike, Route 1, Princeton University main campus, Subway, Taco Bell, Target... basically major shopping centers with everything you could ever want, even though you'd never know it by looking at the property, which is quiet with plenty of space and sufficient grass to make me happy. Our apartment is completely lacking in lawn though. My building is surrounded by crab apple trees which are pretty, even though you step on the fallen, rotting apples in fall. There is evidence of highways around us, but they're covered up by tall walls.

They did a great job renovating the inside of the apartment. The carpet is WONDERFUL, clean, and thick, and our newly redone kitchen was beautiful! They even left us little gift baskets in the kitchen and bathroom when we moved in. :) True, one of the bedrooms has no AC, and a draft seeps in the empty space where the AC should be which is only covered by thin metal panels. It's really whatever temperature in here as it is outside. However, the heat works and they pay for it if you're willing to adjust it every day. We've had two windows leak badly when it rained, but we told them about the first one, and they were there to clean the gutter above it the very next day. It hasn't leaked since. Ceasar and Sean, the maintenance guys, are WONDERFUL, honest, and good at what they do. Ceasar even tuned my boyfriend's guitar for him when he came to fix something (the day after we requested it fixed, once again). The garbage dump always has space, I've NEVER been unable to park right near my door whenever I wanted to, and the laundry machines are usually all working, which is more than I could say for college. The garbage dump/bins are inhabited by numberless feral cats, and I picked up a nice working TV there once. :) There's also at least one woodchuck, currently hibernating. He eats the crab apples.

Let's see... they have turned off water/hot water twice since we've been here due to replacing the hot water heater, but both times they left a little note on the door first to warn us and got it back on within a day.

We find the smaller bedroom to be a little small, but there is plenty of storage space in TWO extra closets off the living room. My unit has two doors, one leading to parking and the other to the courtyard/grassy area within the building quad.

Unfortunately the lady who got us the apartment no longer works here, she was EXTRAORDINARILY helpful, going out of her way majorly to help us get the apartment. The new lady seems pretty nice though.

I've heard loud noises outside maybe twice, never anything that bothered me. Not all the folks around here speak English but they're all pretty nice. A few look sort of sketchy but I get the feeling I'm safe enough. The actual town of Hightstown, just down the road, is cute and quaint, consisting of several churches, a post office, a library, a fire station, a little lake thing... a Wachovia... that's about it. I've walked to Hightstown once or twice and enjoyed the walk, but people give me weird looks. Not sure why.

Overall this is a nice place, lots of kids running around, no troubles... dealing with Comcast sort of sucked but that isn't the apartment's fault... I'm paying $1080 for a two bedroom apartment. The only place to mail letters is several blocks away. I haven't seen a single roach. Plenty of spiders though, a few ants. We hear our upstairs neighbors, but not enough to bother me, and I'm generally sensitive about that. Like, you can tell they're running water. That's about it.

Good luck!
