This is my first apartment. I was apprehensive after hearing from people who have lived in apartments as well as reading this website. It's either incredibly difficult to find a decent apartment in New Jersey or everyone who rents here has their standards set way too high.

I've lived here since March 2008 and thus far it's been great. My neighbors are quiet. In fact in 6 months I've almost never even seen any of them. Everyone seems to keep to themselves and to me that's fine. Of those I have seen or heard, I'm surrounded by two couples with no children, a single man, a pair of male roomates, and a small family with a child under 5. I never hear them through the walls. I have heard semi-loud music from inside an apartment while in the common area, but once I close the door to my apartment, it's silent.

The most noise that I hear is from Woodbridge Ave and the Turnpike. But where my unit is located I'm facing both, and can see both from my balcony. There are definitely better locations in the complex (most of the other locations, actually) where this noise would surely be minimized or eliminated.

If we take away the fact that rent prices in this state are ridiculous, Mill Brook is pretty good for what it is. $950 for the 1br unit. A small kitchen but big enough for someone living alone. A dishwasher that looked updated with new parts was here when I moved in. My living room is a good size and has two giant closets on one wall. There's a linen closet next to the bathroom. And another even bigger closet in the bedroom. The bedroom itself is almost as large as the living room.

I've had no problems that required a call to the landlord. Everything's worked fine. Water, hot water, the toilet, sink, everything.

If there's one complaint I have it's that the wood floors, while in decent cosmetic shape, are extremely noisy to walk on. Sometimes I feel, living on the 2nd floor, that I'm the one making too much noise as the boards creak loudly walking over them. I suppose there isn't much to be done about that, however.

Parking has never, ever been a problem. If I can't park directly in front of my door, which is 95% of the time, I only have to go 5 to 10 spaces away to get one. This is at 6pm, 10pm, 2am, whenever.

The grounds are well kept. Every single day there are workers outside cutting the lawn, landscaping, cleaning, or what have you.

A word on the women working in the rental office. I visited a lot of complexes before choosing Mill Brook. Virtually every one of those were rude or disinterested to me. Carol here at Mill Brook was extremely friendly and accommodating.

Finally, I'd say that I would sign another lease if I find I need to stay in NJ for another year. I'm trying to move out of state to find cheaper costs of living. But that has nothing to do with Mill Brook. Check it out if you need to live anywhere in the Edison area. I definitely recommend it.
