Moved in just out of college in 2001 - and just moved out (bought my own apt). I think, one of the best price/value balances I ever saw in the area. Of course, you can complain that it's not exactly a luxury place, but... You've got:
- large apartments with easy parking
- easy access to all major highways/shopping
- maintenance people on-sight, quick response, well-trained stuff and charming ladies in the office
- community college across a street with big park just behind it.
- bus stop in the college (two lines - to Metuchen and New Brunswick)
- clean common area/pool
- never felt insecure, me and my wife could go for a walk after midnight (just a bad habit)
To be fair, a couple of negative points:
- of course, kitchen cabinets/bathroom are not fancy. Sorry, but that's what I was expecting anyways.
- bigger (3-story) apartments indeed have noise problem. If it is critical for you, I would recommend smaller 2-story ones, where the apartment goes across the whole building and you have less neighbors.
- second floor gets really hot in summer - be ready to place more powerful AC that usual (I've got 8k BTU for my bedroom).
To summarize, it is a good budget solution - at least it worked out for me very well.
