Very disappointed...

I have been very disappointed with Englewood Towne Centre. We were initially lured by the fairly close proximity to NYC and the fact that we received more space for our money than in the City. However, I regret that we did not research the building further to understand the "high non-monetary cost" of living here. We will certainly not renew our lease.
Like others on this site, I too find it shocking that there are suddenly so many positive reviews. No tenant I have met at Towne Centre would have written any of those excedingly positive reviews. It makes me wonder who did write them
My biggest complaints:
The walls are ridiculously thin. We hear EVERYTHING from both our upstairs neighbors as well as the neighbors next door to us (from walking, to TV, to playing and crying kids). At first we thought we had particularly loud neighbors but we quickly realized it was not our neighbors but the very cheap construction of the building.
The appliances are among the cheapest on the market. The washer/dryers in the apartments are way too small and have to be replaced unusually often. The fridge and A/C break down frequently and are very energy inefficient.
We have also been disappointed by the staff and service. Although certainly a few people on the staff are helpful and friendly, most are rude and downright unpleasant. The building management is very quick to defend themselves and blame the tenants for any and all problems. They create a "you" against "us" feeling which is not condusive to a friendly living atmosphere.
Perhaps most importantly, the surrounding neighborhood is terrible. Right next door to the building is very low income housing. As a woman, I do not feel safe walking alone after dark (or even a block or two away in the wrong direction during the day). The neighborhood is not very child-friendly. There are a few parks nearby - but they are not very nice and there are often sketchy people roaming the park.
In sum, this building looks fairly nice on the surface but was built in a VERY cheap manner. Cost cutting seems to be the priority. Cheap appliances, walls, floors, construction, safety measures. Inefficient and disinterested staff and management.
Personally, I'd rather commute an extra 10 minutes or pay an extra $200 and live in a better constructed and managed apartment or a house.
