...but the roof doesn't leak!

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2005
The apartment was dirty when we moved in. It was advertised as "renovated". My first reaction to this was "When' 1985'". There were cobwebs in the windows, the seals on the double-paned patio doors had broken and all moisture had gotten in between the panes, rendering them opaque and inefficient. They haphazardly spackled and painted over EVERYTHING, including outlets, making it impossible to get plugs in them. The windows don't shut all the way, so we have to stuff towels in there in the winter. Some people get new windows, but we've been complaining about it since we moved in (2 years) and nothing has been done. They're actually avoiding us! (my husband called on cell phone instead of house phone, and they answered!) The squirrels have made nests in the walls, and our downstairs neighbors had them actually bite through the wires, causing their electricity to go out in the kitchen! The crappy job they did on the hardwood floors...It's dripping down the wall by the stairs and coins and dust clods are actually lacquered onto the floors, plus the dust from them sanding the floors was not cleaned up. The laundry room ceiling was being devoured by mold, and eventually they cut the moldy chunks out. I swear that they just plaster the walls in joint compound! I was trying to put up curtain rods and the wall was literally crumbling as I put the screws in. I ended up using thumb-tacks because they were the only things skinny enough not to crumble the wall. The toilet had a lovely black ring around the top of the water level. End caps were missing on heaters, the dishwasher leaked and it took a month to be replaced, outlets and switches don't work, walls crack, drywall tape peels off the walls, floor lacquer chips and makes nice pieces for babies to try and eat, bees get in through gaps next to doors and windows, and the manager doesn't give a hoot about anything unless you hang out with her in the office. When we called with complaints, she'd never pick up the phone and never call back when we left messages or wrote letters.
There are some good points, though. Parking is awesome. I have lived here almost 2 years and the parking lot is never full. The only problem with parking is that people are so lazy and like to park all along both sides of the road in the fire lanes because they can't move their big butts 10 extra feet to walk from the parking lot. The snow and trash removal is pretty prompt, and you can pretty much do anything you want with your apartment and not get in trouble. It's a very laid-back atmosphere here. The pool, playground, and other rec. places are OK. There is no mold or water leaks in my apartment, and the town is beautiful and safe. I have no problems with the neighbors and other tenants, although they can be sometimes LOUD (but that really is the least of my concerns.) Also, they just got new management, and I have noticed that they fixed a crummy, falling-apart, wood retaining wall with pretty blocks, so maybe things will start to look up. I sure hope so.
